2023 BMW X2 Review, Facelift, Changes, GoldPlay, Price

The segment of subcompact luxury crossovers is so competitive that even less practical coupe SUVs are making pretty strong sales numbers. The X2 is a perfect example, as a model that puts style ahead of practicality. The current generation has been around for a while, so the Bavarian carmaker decided to bring some novelties. The next year’s model has already been introduced and although we haven’t seen the full 2023 BMW X2 facelift, some pretty interesting novelties were introduced. This particularly refers to the new GoldPlay version, which brings several visual upgrades, as well as a couple of mechanical improvements.

The rest of the lineup, though, continues in the same way, without more important updates. The overall design remains the same, which means that you may count on a familiar layout that has a lot of great things to offer, starting from the nice interior, refined powertrain, engaging handling and a long list of standard and available equipment.

2023 BMW X2 Design

As we’ve just mentioned, we didn’t see the 2023 BMW X2 facelift, as some sources were suggesting. Instead, the Bavarian carmaker introduced a new version called GoldPlay. That model brings several exclusive styling details, such as a different front end design and gold exterior trim accents. Also, there are exclusive color options, such as San Remo Green, Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Storm Bay, or Skyscraper Grey paint. Also, this version comes standard with features that were part of the M Sport package, such as tuned suspension, exclusive 19-inch wheels etc.

On the other hand, base models continue in the same way, with a familiar design and features. The X2 still looks nice, while we really like how it drives. It offers pretty engaging handling, while the comfort is at a pretty reasonable level as well.

Interior

On the other hand, the cabin design carries on in the same way. We didn’t see any particular change, so you may count on a familiar interior design, which still looks quite fresh and very nice. The aesthetics are done in BMW’s typical manner, while the selection of materials and overall build quality are at a pretty high level.

The front seats are massive and supporting, offering plenty of space and a high level of comfort. Moreover, we find the driving position excellent, whether it’s about ergonomics or outward visibility. On the other hand, the second row is a mixed bag. There is plenty of legroom, but the headroom has been compromised due to the sloping roof design, so taller passengers probably won’t be able to sit comfortably in the second row.

For the same reason, the cargo area is notably smaller compared to the X1 but still quite average for the class. You may count on about 21.6 cubic feet behind the second row and 50 cubic feet of the total cargo volume.

Features

As we already mentioned, the list of standard equipment is quite generous. All models come standard with goodies like an 8.8-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a 10-speaker stereo, HD Radio, satellite radio, navigation, Bluetooth and a USB port, as well as dual-zone climate control. Additionally, you can opt for goodies like wireless device charging and a Wi-Fi hot spot, as well as a panoramic sunroof.

When it comes to safety, base models come standard with goodies like forwarding collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, speed-limit recognition, rearview camera, parking sensors etc. Also, there are a few more driver-assistance features available, such as a head-up display, adaptive cruise control, park assist etc.

2023 BMW X2 Engine

As the M-badged model was discontinued last year, the 2023 BMW X2 continues with just one powertrain option on offer. Of course, we are talking about a familiar 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The engine comes in pair with a smooth-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission, and the overall performance is at a pretty high level.

Base models come with front-wheel drive, while the xDrive AWD system is available as an option. When it comes to fuel economy, you may count on typical ratings for the class. In numbers, that would be around 25 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. Of course, models with all-wheel drive are slightly thirstier.
