The second production year shouldn’t bring any particular change and we expect to see familiar design characteristics in every aspect. Still, this doesn’t mean we couldn’t see a few minor tweaks, such as new color options and a few additions to the list of standard equipment.
The overall layout will certainly remain the same, which means you may count on the same pros and cons as for the current model. When it comes to things we like about this model, the first thing that comes to mind is a lineup of capable engines, which are also fuel-efficient. Furthermore, we like the infotainment system, as well as the spacious seats. On the other hand, the cargo area is small, while the sound insulation could be better.
As there are no bigger changes to come, we presume that the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLA will hit the market sometime late in the year.
2022 Mercedes-Benz GLA Redesign
As we’ve just mentioned, this small crossover has been completely redesigned last year. The new generation has brought improvements in various aspects, starting from a new platform, which brings several new design solutions and technologies. The ride quality is better, even though some aspects of the crossover aren’t that premium at all. For example, base models come with a torsion beam on the rear end, while multi-link comes with AMG-badged models only.
The styling has always been a strong point of this Mercedes. The new generation looks very good, and it follows the brand’s latest design language pretty much completely. All in all, the next year definitely won’t bring any notable change, though there’s always room for new color options and similar things.
Interior
On the inside, there are many things to like about this small crossover, but there are also things that should have been done better. On one side, the dashboard looks attractive and comes equipped with the company’s latest infotainment system and other tech features. The overall quality is very good, though some of the rivals feel a little bit more upscale. One of the biggest complaints goes to sound insulation, as a lot of wind noise enters the cabin.
When it comes to the passenger space, both rows stand pretty well. Both rows are generous with space and accommodate adults with ease. The front seats are particularly comfortable and supportive, while the driving position is very good. The visibility is also good in all directions.
On the other hand, the cargo area isn’t that impressive. It offers around 15.4 cubic feet behind the second row, which is among the lowest ratings in the class. Things are slightly better in terms of total cargo capacity, where you get 50.5 cubic feet. That’s already a solid rating for the class.
Features
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLA could come with a couple of new things on the list of standard equipment but we are pretty sure that most of the things are about to remain the same. Therefore, you may count on goodies like dual-zone climate control, remote start, a 7-inch touch screen, a touchpad controller, a six-speaker stereo, HD Radio, four USB ports, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Additionally, you can get a panoramic sunroof, a 10.25-inch touch screen, a 12-speaker Burmester audio system, satellite radio, wireless device charging, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and navigation.
The same thing is with safety features. We expect that base models will feature a rearview camera, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, driver drowsiness monitoring, blind spot monitoring. Among upgrades, you can find a head-up display, traffic sign recognition, parallel and perpendicular park assist, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane centering assist, active lane change assists, evasive steering assist, intersection assist and more.
2022 Mercedes-Benz GLA Engines
We expect to see the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLA offered with three familiar engine options. Base models will continue with a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 221 horsepower. Also, there are two AMG-badged models, also equipped with a turbo-four engine. The first one is AMG GLA 35, which puts out 302 horsepower. The most capable version is the AMG GLA 45, which is good for about 382 horsepower.
All three engines come in pair with 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. When it comes to fuel economy, the base engine returns around 25 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway, which is a pretty good rating for the segment.
2022 Mercedes-Benz GLA Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLA will hit the market sometime late in the year, with a starting price of around 37.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like Audi Q3, BMW X1, Lexus UX, Volvo XC40 etc.
