Today’s automotive industry is mainly about two things – crossovers and electrification. Therefore, it’s no wonder that the biggest novelties for the next year will be about new SUV models, where most of them will go full-electric.

Some brand-new all-electric SUVs are arriving, such as the Cadillac Lyriq, GMC Hummer, and Mercedes EQE SUV. Also, some well-known nameplates will get their all-electric iterations, such as Porsche Macan.

Despite the massive electrifications, conventional cars with internal-combustion engines will remain leaders in the segment for some more time. Therefore, it’s no wonder that Lexus is preparing the new generation of its super-popular, legendary RX model. Furthermore, some performance-oriented SUVs will get much-needed updates. This primarily refers to the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, as well as to Lamborghini Urus. Models like the excellent Kia Telluride are also about to receive a facelift.

Moreover, there are some brand-new models with gasoline engines to come, starting from the brand-new Mazda CX-50. Another big novelty is the Jeep Wagoneer L, which will be a stretched version of the recently revived full-size SUV.

As you can see, there are many novelties to come in the SUV segment, which will become more competitive than ever.  There are so many exciting things to come and from our perspective, this means just one thing – buyers will get an even bigger choice, while engineers will continue to improve the existing models, which will make the market full of amazing products.

That’s why we’ve decided to make a list of some of the best 2023 SUV models worth waiting for:

2023 Cadillac Lyriq Electric SUV

Cadillac will enter the world of electric cars with the all-new model called Lyriq. The new model will be a crossover and it will be built on a completely new platform, dedicated to all-electric vehicles only. The expectations are high, especially if we consider that this model will have to compete with already established names on the market, such as Jaguar I-Pace, Audi e-tron etc.

The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq will be a compact crossover and from what we can see in rendering photos, it will be characterized by a super-futuristic front-end design, which is different from everything we’ve seen from this brand so far. The rest of the body looks a little bit more conventional, though it does feature a bit of a sloping roof, offering that coupe-like layout. The interior will be dominated by a massive LED display, just like in the new Escalade, which will integrate an instrument cluster and infotainment screen.

Most importantly, the new crossover will be available in two variants. The standard, rear-motor version will feature a max output of 340 horsepower. On the other hand, the dual-motor setup will offer all-wheel drive and a max output of 500 horsepower. Some sources suggest a 100-kWh battery pack, which will ensure more than 300 miles of the all-electric range.

The starting price is expected to go around 60.000 dollars.

2023 Kia Telluride

The Telluride amazed the automotive world a few years ago. Then the new crossover brought a completely new dimension of balance between price and value to the mid-size SUV segment. Now, it’s time for the mid-cycle refresh and from what we can see, the new model looks even more amazing.

Of course, the 2023 Kia Telluride will continue to offer a fantastic value for money but with updates that take even more bits from the premium segment. Of course, the biggest updates are those in terms of the styling. There is a new front end, which includes new headlights, a new grille design etc. The rear end also comes with a couple of notable changes, including new taillights.

Big changes are coming on the inside as well. The biggest novelty is the addition of a couple of integrated 12.3-inch screens, designed in a similar manner are those found in German premium brands. The new cabin also utilizes finer materials, while one of the intriguing details is the traditional gear lever that remains.

On the other hand, we won’t see changes under the hood. The 2023 Kia Telluride will continue with a 291-hp V6 engine, which comes with 8-speed automatic transmission. On the other hand, there are new X-Line and X-Pro trims that bring a couple of off-road bits, along with higher max towing capacity that goes up to 5.500 pounds.

The 2023 Kia Telluride will arrive in the second half of the year, with a starting price of around 35.000 dollars.

2023 Mercedes EQE SUV

After the all-new EQE sedan, it is time for the SUV version with the same badge. From what we know so far, the new all-electric crossover will arrive in the next year and we have pretty big expectations from it, both in terms of luxury and technological achievements.

From what we can see in the spy shots, the new model will feature a typical SUV layout. On the other hand, the front end closely follows the brand’s latest design language, established by the earlier models from the EQ series.

When it comes to the interior design, we expect the same dashboard design as in the EQE sedan, with a full load of tech features, but also with lots of flashy, kitschy details.

We expect to see at least three powertrain options on the offer. Base models will feature a single, rear-mounted electric motor, with a max output of 288 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque. A dual-motor version will also come, though we still don’t know the numbers. Finally, we will see the AMG model, with a max output of 671.

Two battery capacities will be offered, 90- and 107.8-kWh units. The latter should ensure a max range of 350 miles.

Details about the price are yet to come.

2023 Porsche Macan EV

Very soon, the automotive market will be overflowed with all-electric crossovers and among so many upcoming models, there is also the all-electric version of the Porsche Macan. The new model will arrive sometime in the next year and Porsche lovers have big expectations from it.

Despite the same name, the 2023 Porsche Macan EV won’t have many things in common with the gasoline-powered Macan. It will feature a completely different design, based on the same architecture as Porsche Taycan. Even the styling is going to be notably different, especially at the front where the headlights will closely resemble those on the Taycan.

This platform ensures many benefits, including the 800-volt layout, which will ensure a super-fast charging option of 270 kW. On the other hand, details about the power and performance are still unknown.

We believe that the trim level organization will be the same as in Taycan, which means  Base, S and GTS variants. The base modes should cost around 80.000 dollars, while the most expensive versions will probably go way over 100.000 dollars.

2023 GMC HUMMER EV Edition 1

After the recent launch of the pickup, it’s time for the SUV version of the revived Hummer. This time under GMC’s badge, the new SUV will bring a fully-electric setup, with impressive performance and a lot of advanced technologies.

Once again, Edition 1 will be the first version to come. It will be the range-topping model and what’s interesting is that, due to the shorter wheelbase, the battery will feature a smaller capacity. Also, the electric motors will feature less power, so the max output will go around 830 horsepower. For comparison, the pickup features 1000 horses. Still, 830 horsepower will be enough for a 0-60 sprint in just 3.5 seconds. The max range will probably go around 300 miles.

Despite pretty large dimensions, the new 2023 GMC HUMMER EV Edition 1 will feature just two rows of seats. The overall exterior design will closely resemble the previous generations, while things like removable doors and roof panels will be part of the standard equipment.

Just like the pickup, the new SUV will also come with a dashboard design that’s highlighted by a couple of massive screens, while there will also be a lot of details that celebrate GM’s part in the development of lunar rovers.

The 2023 GMC HUMMER EV Edition 1 will arrive by the end of this year, with a starting price of around 105.600 dollars.

2023 Lexus RX

The legendary RX is widely considered the pioneer of the luxury SUV segment and 25 years after the original launch, it is still by far the most popular model in its class. However, the current generation has been around for a while and it’s time for changes.

The upcoming redesign will bring a lot of new things. Besides the new styling and interior designs, the new model will finally switch to the company’s new-generation TNGA platform and offer much better driving characteristics, thanks to the lower center of gravity, weight reduction and similar things.

Still, it looks like changes under the hood will be the most interesting ones. The latest reports suggest four powertrain options. Three of them will be electrified. Base models will feature a 2.4-liter turbo-four, with 275 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. That’s less power but significantly more torque compared to the current V6.

The hybrid lineup will start with the 350h model, which will probably use the same system as the Highlander, based on the 2.5-liter inline-four. The 450h+, which should feature the same plug-in setup as the RAV4 Prime, with way over 300 horsepower. Finally, we also expect to see the 500h version, which will be an all-new system, based on the turbo-four engine. It will be the most powerful version on the offer and some sources also suggest it could come with a 10-speed automatic transmission, instead of CVT.

The starting price should go around 48.000 dollars.

2023 Alfa Romeo Stelvio

The Alfa Romeo’s first crossover has been around since 2016 and according to the latest reports, the new generation won’t arrive before 2025. Meanwhile, the Italian manufacturer will update its dynamic crossover in order to keep it competitive.

The test mule has been spotted on the road. It shows a relatively small camouflage, which indices mild styling changes. We expect that most of them will happen at the front, with slight revisions on headlights, bumper etc. The other areas should bring novelties as well, while we also count on things like new color options, new wheels etc. Certain revisions on the inside are expected too, though we still can talk about details.

Most likely, we won’t be seeing changes under the hood. Base models will continue with a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out 280 horsepower and 306 pound-feet of torque. On the other hand, the Quadrifoglio will continue with a super-capable 2.9-liter V6, which puts out 505 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque, which is enough to move this SUV from zero to sixty in just 3.6 seconds.

We expect that the 2023 Alfa Romeo Stelvio will arrive sometime in the last quarter of the year, with a starting price of around 47.000 dollars.

2023 Jeep Wagoneer L

The legendary SUV came back recently after a very long hiatus. The new model has brought a completely new design and it sits somewhere between the mainstream and premium segment, but mainly competing with Chevy Tahoe and Ford Expedition. Now, it looks like it’s time for a long-wheelbase version, which would compete with the Suburban and Expedition Max.

From what we know so far, the 2023 Jeep Wagoneer L will feature 130 inches in wheelbase, which is 7-inches more compared to the standard version. The overall length will go up to 226.7 inches, which is 12 inches more compared to the standard Wagoneer. Of course, the main benefits will come on the inside, with a more generous cargo area. Unfortunately, we still don’t have the numbers.

Another big novelty will come under the hood. The company is about to introduce the new 3.0-liter turbo inline-six engine, which will feature a max output of 420 horsepower and 468 pound-feet of torque. The same engine but with more power will power the Grand Wagoneer.

However, this doesn’t mean that the current 5.7-liter HEMI V8 will be deleted from the offer. Most likely, it will remain available for a few more years. Both units will come coupled with 8-speed automatic transmission.

The starting price should go around 69.000 dollars.

2023 Mazda CX-50

The Japanese manufacturer is working very hard to expand its offer and while everyone talks about the new platform with inline-six engines and RWD layout, Mazda has just introduced another model based on the current platform. It comes as the 2023 Mazda CX-50 and it seems like a big upgrade over the well-known CX-5.

Compared to the CX-5, the CX-50 features a longer wheelbase and notably bigger overall dimensions. This increase fixes the biggest issues of the old model, which wasn’t particularly generous with the second-row passenger space and cargo area. Also, the cabin comes with a new dashboard design, which looks a little bit more rugged but still offers exceptional elegance and fantastic quality.

The more rugged nature can be noticed on the outside as well. This model features a bolder and more muscular appearance, characterized by more black plastic and other details that accentuate the more SUV-ish nature.

Under the hood, things are pretty familiar. Base models use a naturally-aspirated inline-four, with 187 horsepower. For those who look for something peppier, there is a familiar turbo-four, which features a max output of 256 horsepower with premium fuel. In both cases, you may count on a pretty good 6-speed automatic transmission.

The starting price goes around 28.000 dollars.

2023 Lamborghini Urus

The Urus has been around for a while and despite it’s still one of the fastest SUVs around, it’s time for updates. Therefore, the 2023 Lamborghini Urus is getting a mid-cycle refresh, which will bring novelties in various aspects.

First of all, there is the updated styling. The test mule took off most of its camouflage and we can notice a few interesting revisions. Besides more attractive aesthetical solutions, we can also notice that Italian engineers put a lot of effort to improve airflow. New air curtains are on the hood, front bumper etc.

At this point, we still don’t know anything about the interior updates. Some changes may happen, and that particularly refers to the new infotainment system. Other than that, we count on more tech and driver-assist features.

Under the hood, the 2023 Lamborghini Urus will continue with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, which puts out 641 horsepower, which is enough to get to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds. Some sources also speculate about the possible addition of a hybrid version, which would use the same system as the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid, which features a combined output of 670 horsepower. The officials are still quiet about this powertrain.

The current model starts at around 225.500 dollars and we might see a slight increase after the facelift.
