2023 Mercedes-Benz G-class and AMG G 63: Updates, Specs, Features, Images

0

The iconic off-roader has been around for more than four decades and it is currently more popular than ever. The original styling is still there, though the SUV was completely redesigned in 2018. Nowadays, it looks like the German manufacturer wants to retain the sales numbers and therefore, we are about to see a mid-cycle refresh. This update is about to bring a couple of interesting novelties, particularly in terms of styling. Interior updates are possible too, while we also count on more standard and available equipment. On the other hand, we expect that the engine lineup will remain the same.

The 2023 Mercedes-Benz G-class will bring novelties but a familiar overall layout. We are about to see the same, super-luxurious SUV that offers a high level of comfort, excellent off-road performance and many other benefits.

The updated version should arrive by the end of the year, though some sources suggest that the launch could be moved to the next year.

2023 Mercedes-Benz G-class Design

Both the 2023 Mercedes-Benz G-class and AMG G63 will receive a facelift. The test mule has already been spotted and from what we can see, it wears a decent amount of camouflage. Of course, most of it can be seen at the front, where we expect revisions to the headlights, grille, front bumper etc. The rear end also wears a lot of camouflage, so we presume we could see some changes in this part of the vehicle as well.

On the other hand, we don’t expect to see mechanical changes. This aspect of the vehicle should remain the same, which means the same ride quality as well. This SUV offers a super-high level of comfort, even though it is essentially an off-roader. However, its overall design, with a high center of gravity, makes it not particularly great in corners, even by the standards of a body-on-frame SUV.

Off the road, this is where this SUV rules. It offers excellent performance, thanks to the relatively short wheelbase, two-speed transfer case, three locking differentials, 9.5 inches of ground clearance etc.

Interior

This SUV offers everything you would expect from a six-figure vehicle with this badge. The cabin is wrapped with high-quality materials and features excellent build quality. Simply, there is really nothing to complain about, and that refers to the number of tech features as well.

2023 Mercedes-Benz G-class Interior

There are two rows of seats and both of them are spacious and comfortable. Both of them offer plenty of room for adult passengers, while the front seats also feature 10-way power adjustability, so it’s pretty easy to find an ideal driving position.

Still, the cargo area isn’t all that generous, which is logical, considering the overall size of the vehicle. Most rivals are bigger and offer more cargo room. On the other hand, the 2023 Mercedes-Benz G-class will continue to offer 38.1 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and 68.6 cubic feet of the total cargo room.

2023 Mercedes-Benz G-class Engine

Under the hood, the 2023 Mercedes-Benz G-class will probably continue in the same way. You may count on the same 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo engine, which puts out around 416 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, which is plenty enough for excellent performance. A 9-speed automatic transmission is very refined and does a fantastic job, while a four-wheel-drive system is standard. The average fuel economy goes around 17 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway.

2023 Mercedes-AMG G 63

This version of the SUV will also get an update. Naturally, the most notable changes will be those in terms of styling. As we already mentioned, changes will come to both ends of the vehicle. Furthermore, the AMG G 63 will continue with plethora of exclusive features, starting from the exclusive styling details and various mechanical upgrades. Speaking of the mechanical upgrades, some of the things that come to mind are goodies like a sport-tuned suspension with adaptive damping, off-road drive modes, high-performance braking etc.

Still, the biggest upgrade is under the hood, where this version comes with a more capable variant of the twin-turbo V8 engine. The max output goes around 577 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque, which is enough to move this SUV from zero to sixty in just 4.5 seconds. The average fuel economy goes around 13 mpg in the city and 16 mpg on the highway.
