The upcoming year will be pretty interesting when it comes to the automotive industry. We are about to see a lot of new models, particularly SUV vehicles. Most of them will be all-electric, so we could say that this year will clearly define the future of the automotive industry. The following years will be all about electrification and the latest estimations suggest that more than a half of SUV models on the market will be either hybrid, plug-in hybrids, or all-electric by 2025.

The next year will bring a lot of interesting models. Most of them will be electrified in some way. Some of them are brand-new, while some will come completely redesigned, with an electrified powertrain. We present you some of the most interesting SUVs that are coming out this year:

2023 BMW XM

The Bavarian performance division will get electrified. That’s where the XM comes from, to pay a tribute to the company’s first-ever M model, which appeared four decades ago. This one will get a plug-in hybrid powertrain and it will have most things in common with the X7 crossover.

At this point, we know it will share the wheelbase and a lot of mechanics with the aforementioned full-size crossover. However, the styling and interior design will be completely different. The test mule still wears a camouflage but we expect that the production version won’t look much different compared to the concept version, which was presented last year.

We know for sure that the 2023 BMW XM will feature a plug-in hybrid setup. It will come with a system that puts a single electric motor between a twin-turbo gasoline engine and transmission, with a combined output of 750 horsepower and 737 pound-feet of torque. The system will come coupled with a 20-kWh battery, which should ensure a decent all-electric range as well.

2023 Subaru Solterra

The upcoming compact crossover will be the first all-electric vehicle from Subaru. The Japanese manufacturer joined forces with Toyota in order to develop a new platform for electric vehicles and this will be the first model to ride on it, along with the sibling from Toyota, which will come as the bZ4X.

From what we know so far, the new crossover won’t try to impress in terms of some striking acceleration and performances that are out of this world. Instead, it will keep power at reasonable measure. The whole system will consist of a couple of electric motors, with a total output of 215 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque. According to the manufacturer, the max range will go around 220 miles.

The overall design looks similar to the sibling from Toyota. This will be a compact crossover, which will offer a good balance between price and performance. It will come with a well-designed cabin, which will also be spacious and practical. We expect that the cargo volume behind the second row will go over 30 cubic feet.

The latest reports suggest a starting price of around 37.000 dollars.

2023 Ferrari Purosangue

Ferrari’s first-ever crossover has been in talks for a very long time and it looks like it’s finally coming. The famous company will finally launch a vehicle that will compete with models like Lamborghini Urus and Aston Martic DBX and therefore, we expect nothing less than spectacular performance.

From what we know so far, Ferrari’s crossover will be smaller and more agile than rivals. Of course, we expect implementation of the brand’s latest design language, introduced with the new Roma model. That car will also borrow the platform for the new SUV, which means we could see the same powertrain as well.

This leads us to a plug-in hybrid system, based on a 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, which would come in a combination with a 161-hp electric motor, for a combined output of 700 horsepower. Some sources also speculate about the V12 version, which would come with the company’s well-known 6.5-liter unit. The officials are still quiet about this.

2023 Ford Bronco Raptor

The legendary nameplate was revived last year, finally. The new SUV impresses in many ways but we are still waiting for the ultimate version. According to the latest reports, that model will come as the 2023 Ford Bronco Raptor, and we have no doubt it will bring all kinds of upgrades.

Compared to standard models, this version will come with all kinds of exclusive features. Besides unique styling, it will also come with upgraded suspension, lift kit, all-terrain tires and other chassis upgrades. Still, the most interesting part of this version will certainly be the engine.

At this point, we are still waiting for the officials to hear something on this matter. The Blue Oval company needs something to match the Wrangler’s 6.4-liter V8 with 470 horsepower and we believe that will probably be a 3.0-lite twin-turbo V6 from Explorer, with a max output of more than 400 horsepower and nearly 500 pound-feet of torque.

2023 Alfa Romeo Tonale

The iconic Italian brand has been in a big crisis for a long time and models like Giulia and Stelvio, although amazing cars, didn’t help much. Therefore, the company is about to see a model that could potentially be a strong seller and big moneymaker – a subcompact luxury crossover.

The concept of this small crossover was presented a couple of years ago and we hope that the production version will look as amazing. Of course, we have no doubt that Italian engineers will make a proper driver’s car, with sporty suspension and chassis setup.

When it comes to the powertrain, the new crossover will feature a plug-in hybrid setup. The system will be based on a 1.3-liter engine, combined with a couple of electric motors. It should be offered in two output versions, with either 190 or 240 horsepower. The system should include an 11.4 kWh battery, which should ensure decent autonomy.

2023 Land Rover Defender 80

The legendary SUV was redesigned a few years ago and it looks like the British manufacturer is now preparing a new, even smaller version than the short-wheelbase 90 model. The newest version is about to come as the 2023 Land Rover Defender 80 and from what we know so far, it won’t have many things in common with bigger siblings, except for the name and aesthetics.

Allegedly, the new model won’t ride on a shortened version of Defender’s platform. Instead, it will use the platform from JLR’s parent company, the Indian carmaker called Tata. Such a design approach will make this small SUV more affordable, able to compete with two-door versions of Jeep Wrangler and Ford Bronco.

When it comes to the powertrain, base models will probably use a 2.0-liter turbo-four, with a max output of around 250 horsepower. A plug-in hybrid should be offered too.

2023 Toyota Sequoia

These are pretty big days for Toyota’s BoF lineup. After a very long time, we will see a complete overhaul. The Tundra pickup and Land Cruiser have already been redesigned and it looks like it’s time for the all-new Sequoia now.

Of course, the new full-size SUV will share most of the parts with Tundra, starting from the new TNGA-F platform. Naturally, we count on the same aesthetical approach, while the dashboard shouldn’t be much different either. This redesign will also bring big improvements regarding ride quality, as we are about to see a way more refined suspension setup.

When it comes to the powertrain, we presume that base models will come with a new 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6, which puts out around 389 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. A hybrid version is also expected, with a total output of 437 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque.

2023 Cadillac Lyriq

Cadillac’s electrification will start with the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq. The new crossover will go fully electric and from what we know so far, it will be based on GM’s scalable platform that uses Ultium battery technology, the same one that underpins the new GMC Hummer EV.

The new model will probably feature a 100-kWh battery pack, which should ensure around 300 miles on a single charge. When it comes to drivetrain, base models will come with a single electric motor mounted on the rear axle, with the max output of 340 horsepower. AWD version will come too.

When it comes to the overall design, we expect to see a coupe-like crossover, which probably won’t look much different compared to the concept version. On the inside, we count on the implementation of Caddy’s latest tech achievements, including lots of screens and the latest driver assistance features.

2023 Nissan Ariya

Nissan is one of the pioneers of the EV segment and it’s about time to see a crossover with this badge. That model will come in the second half of the year, as the 2023 Nissan Ariya. The new model will be based on a modified version of the CMF platform, called CMF-EV.

From what we know so far, all versions will feature a 91-kWh battery, which will ensure a max range of up to 300 miles. Both FWD and AWD versions will be available. The former will come with a 240-hp electric motor, while the latter is about to come with the additional one and total output of 390 horsepower.

In terms of base design characteristics, this will be a compact crossover. From what we can see, it will look very attractive, while the inside is about to come packed with a full load of features, including the latest tech goodies, such as the ProPilot 2.0 driver-assist system.

2023 Toyota bZ4X

As we already mentioned, Toyota and Subaru joined their forces to develop a new platform for electric vehicles only. The first products are already on the way and while Subaru is about to launch Soltera, Toyota will come with the bZ4X.

Most of the parts will be shared with the Subaru twin, including the styling, which looks pretty much the same, except for the front face. The same thing can be said for the interior design, which looks modern and upscale, packed with the latest tech features.

The drivetrain will consist of a couple of electric motors, with a total output of 215 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque. This system will come with a 64-kWh battery pack, which should ensure more than 250 miles on a single charge. The new crossover will come with a pretty competitive starting price of around 37.000 dollars.

2023 Fisker Ocean

Fisker is also preparing an all-electric crossover and judging on the design, it’s clear that it aims directly at potential Tesla buyers. Not only that it’s about offering plenty of performance for the money, but it’s also about to come with a couple of fancy tricks in its pocket.

For example, its attractive design will be complemented with a mode that opens the roof, side windows and rear glass, turning this SUV into a real convertible. Speaking of the roof, it will come with solar panels, which will be able to provide around 2000 miles of range per year, at least in ideal conditions.

When it comes to drivetrain, base models will come with a single electric motor mounted on the front axle, with a max power of 275 horsepower. AWD models will feature the same electric motor at the rear axle, with a total power of 550 horses. Details about the battery capacity are yet to come but we expect that base models will be able to make 250 miles per change, while long-range versions should be good for about 350 miles.

2023 Mercedes EQB

The German premium carmaker entered the all-electric segment a while ago and the latest addition to the EQ series will be a small crossover called the 2023 Mercedes EQB. This model will be based on the GLB model. It will feature a similar boxy shape, though the front end will follow the design language of EQ models completely.

In terms of drivetrain, base models will come with a  single electric motor on the front axle, with a max output of 221 horsepower. AWD versions will come too, though we still don’t know the exact power. Both versions will come with a 66.5-kWh battery pack, which should ensure a max range of up to 250 miles.

Of course, you may count on a level of luxury typical for this brand. This refers to high-end materials and a full load of tech features. Therefore, the new model won’t be cheap, as the starting price will go around 57.000 dollars.

2023 Kia Niro

Kia’s small crossover is about to get a complete overhaul and from what we can see on the rendering photos, the new generation will look way better than the current model. We are about to see a significantly upgraded styling, which will bring a dose of aggressiveness to this otherwise pretty versatile car.

Also, the new model will go upscale in terms of the interior design, with much better build quality, better materials and other upgrades. The overall size shouldn’t change much, so we count on a similar amount of passenger and cargo space.

Details about the powertrain are still a mystery but from what we know so far, the new generation will also come in hybrid, plug-in hybrid and all-electric versions.

2023 Porsche Macan EV

The super athletic crossover from Porsche is about to get an all-electric version but from what we can see, it won’t have many things in common with the version that uses internal combustion engines. This one will be built on the company’s new PPE platform, the same one that will underpin models like the Audi A6 e-tron and Q6 e-tron.

Details about the drivetrain are still unavailable. The only thing we heard from the officials is that the 2023 Porsche Macan EV will feature a much longer range than the Taycan. The test mule has been on the road for some time and the overall shape doesn’t seem particularly different from the ICE version.

The arrival of an all-electric Macan doesn’t mean that the gasoline model will end its production. The latest reports suggest the current generation is about to remain in production for a few more years.

2023 Rivian R1S

Rivian’s SUV is about to arrive by the end of this year and it won’t feature a much different design than the pickup version, except for the body layout, of course. It will share most of the parts and come in the same versions regarding power and range.

So, you may count on the same setup of four electric motors, with a total output of 800 horsepower. There will be two versions regarding battery capacity on the offer. Base models will come with a 135-kWh battery and max range of 300 miles, while the optional 180-kWh battery should ensure a max range of around 400 miles.

On the inside, the dashboard will look the same as in the R1T model, while the main difference will be in a pretty spacious third row of seats. Base models will cost around 70.000 dollars, while the initial Launch Edition should cost around $75.500.
