2022 Mitsubishi Pajero Price, Final Edition, UAE, Philippines

The fourth generation of the legendary off-roader is finally coming to an end of its lifespan. After 15 years of production, the final version will be offered in Australia, as the 2022 Mitsubishi Pajero Final Edition. This model will come with familiar design characteristics and from what we know, only 800 units will be offered.

In other parts of the world, this SUV is no longer available. The North American version, known as Montero, was discontinued years ago. The same thing is with the European version, while the model for the domestic market ended production in 2019. The only market left was China, but Pajero ended here last year.

So, Australia remains the only market for the old Pajero. We have no doubt that sales will go pretty well, even though we are talking about an outdated SUV, which definitely can’t stack up with younger rivals.

2022 Mitsubishi Pajero Redesign

From what we can see, the only interesting thing about the 2022 Mitsubishi Pajero Final Edition will be a bunch of exclusive styling details, which are mostly about badging and other minor tweaks. On the other hand, the overall design will remain untouched.

The fourth generation of this SUV was launched in 2006, but even that model was old by some standards, as many parts were carried over from the third-generation model, which was introduced in 1999. So, we are basically talking about a 22-year old design, which definitely leaves some consequences in terms of refinement.

On the other hand, there is really nothing to complain about regarding capabilities. This SUV offers excellent off-road performance and among standard equipment, you can find a lot of off-road hardware, including full-time 4WD, dual-speed transfer case, locking differential and many more. This model also comes with selectable traction modes.

Styling and Interior

This aspect won’t bring any bigger surprise. The current generation has been around for 15 years and even though there were some smaller updates, the appearance is largely the same as in the initial model. As we already mentioned, the 2022 Mitsubishi Pajero will bring a couple of minor tweaks, but you may count on the unmistakable look, which definitely belongs to some earlier era of the automotive industry.

The same thing is with the interior design, which looks way outdated compared to the competition. However, this cabin is perfectly functional. It offers plenty of space and its boxy shape ensures plenty of room for passengers and cargo. On the other side, things are pretty rudimental in terms of tech and safety features.

2022 Mitsubishi Pajero Engine

All 800 units will come with the same powertrain setup. You may count on a good-old 3.2-liter V6 turbodiesel, which puts out around  140 kW. For those who are not comfortable with the Australian way of measuring power, that would be around horsepower. The max torque goes around 325 pound-feet.

The power is sent via a 5-speed automatic transmission. Yes, this gearbox may seem outdated, but it actually works pretty well. Of course, 4WD is standard, while you may also count on all kinds of off-road features as we’ve just mentioned. The max towing capacity goes around 3 tons.

2022 Mitsubishi Pajero Pricing

The 2022 Mitsubishi Pajero will be offered only in Australia. From what we know so far, it will be offered in three variants. The base GLX will cost around $55.000, while the mid-range GLS will start at around 60.500 Australian dollars. Finally, the range-topping Exceed model will cost around $63.500.

What About Next-Generation Pajero

These days, we can find a lot of reports that speculate about the next-generation Pajero. What’s common for all these reports is that they all suggest the same scenario. As you probably know, Mitsubishi is now part of Renault Nissan Alliance and most enthusiasts believe that the next generations of Pajero and Patrol will be developed together.

In other words, the new Pajero would be based on the next-generation Patrol. Nissan’s SUV has been around for more than a decade and also needs updates. Therefore, we may expect to see this soon. We presume that the new models would use the same platform, and that would probably be the same but significantly updated F-Alpha platform.

Naturally, the two models would share the engines as well. One of the first engines that come to mind is a new 3.8-liter V6 from Nissan Frontier, which puts out around 310 horsepower. This seems like a perfect fit for the new Pajero, but there is also a chance for something more powerful. Nissan’s current plans don’t include hybrid powertrains for trucks and SUVs, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Pajero with a large 5.6-liter V8. On the other side, chances to see a diesel version are minimal.

At this point, the officials are still quiet about all this. So, take these rumors about a redesign with a big reserve.
