The new generation of the NX compact crossover is coming and we have really big expectations from it. Why? Because it will come with a full pack of novelties and they should make this small SUV way better in every aspect. From what we know so far, the 2022 Lexus NX will come with four powertrain options in the offer, including hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions. Of course, that won’t be the only strong point of the next-generation model.
Naturally, you may count on the new styling, which will bring evolutionary updates. On the other hand, changes under the skin will be far more important, as the 2022 Lexus NX will finally switch to the TNGA platform. We could on much better driving characteristics, while another aspect that will bring improvements is the interior. The new model will bring a more modern cabin design, packed with all kinds of advanced tech goodies.
The new model should hit the market this fall.
2022 Lexus NX Redesign
The upcoming redesign is bringing all kinds of novelties but we should start with the most basic ones. This refers to the platform, as the 2022 Lexus NX will ride on the TNGA architecture. In practice, this means improvements in various aspects. The new architecture will bring new technologies, it will improve efficiency but what’s particularly important in this case is the ride quality. The outgoing model isn’t particularly fun to drive and as the new platform provides a much lower center of gravity, we have no doubt that the 2022 Lexus NX will perform way better on twisty roads.
The new model will have a lot of things in common with the current generation RAV4. The two models will share the wheelbase, while the overall dimensions will be pretty similar as well.
The new styling is another big thing that’s coming with the 2022 Lexus NX. The new model has already been presented and we can see that Lexus designers were pretty cautious with changes. You won’t find any radical change in the new model. Instead, the new styling is rather evolutionary and mostly about subtle modifications. The biggest change at the front is a new pair of headlights, which feature a similar layout to the one found on smaller UX.
The 2022 Lexus NX interior will bring notable improvements. We have no doubt that materials and build quality will be excellent once again but what’s super-easy to be noticed in pictures is that the dashboard looks way more modern. It features a cleaner design, with lots of conservative design solutions. Also, you can notice a massive touchscreen that is now integrated into the dash and is oriented to the driver a lot. Furthermore, you can see a notably smaller number of physical buttons.
The outgoing model is characterized by a pretty generous amount of passenger space but the Japanese manufacturer says the new model will be even better in this aspect. In any case, you may count on two spacious, adult-friendly rows of seats, which accommodate taller passengers with ease. The cargo area will also be quite generous with space.
As we’ve just mentioned, we expect that the 2022 Lexus NX will come packed with all kinds of advanced tech features. Base models will come standard with a 9.8-inch infotainment screen, as well as with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In higher trim levels, you may count on a massive 14-inch infotainment screen, as well as on goodies like wireless charging, head-up display and a premium Mark Levinson sound system, to name a few.
Typically for Lexus, the list of safety features will be very long, with standard automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control and many other safety systems.
2022 Lexus NX Engines
The 2022 Lexus NX will come with four power train options in the offer. Base models will come with a 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated engine, which puts out 203 horsepower. For those who want something peppier but don’t like electric motors, Lexus has prepared a new 2.4-liter turbo-four engine, which features a max output of 275 horsepower. Both engines come in pair with an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
When it comes to hybrid options, the first one will feature a classic Toyota setup, based on a 2.5-liter engine and with a combined output of 240 horsepower. Finally, you may count on a plug-in hybrid version, which will feature the same setup as the RAV4 Prime, with a max output of 302 horsepower.
2022 Lexus NX Release Date and Price
We expect that the new 2022 Lexus NX will hit the market this fall, with a starting price of around 40.000 dollars. The hybrid should go around 47.000 dollars, while the plug-in hybrid will probably feature a starting price of 51.000 dollars. Models like BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC are key competitors.
