Although the current generation has been around for just a couple of years, the German manufacturer already prepares a refresh. The testing model has been spotted on the road and from what we can see, it wears a bit of camouflage at the front, as well as on the inside. We expect slightly styling revisions and a few tweaks to the dashboard. Other than that, things will remain pretty much the same, we believe. This is still a fresh vehicle, which has a lot to show in the following years.
You may count on a design that offers a lot of good things. We like the styling, while the interior is one of the nicest in the class. Furthermore, the engine lineup is pretty impressive and includes a variety of powertrain options, including a V8 engine in the AMG model.
Despite the refresh, we don’t believe that the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE could arrive much earlier than usual. We expect to see it this fall.
2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE Redesign
As we’ve just mentioned, the German manufacturer prepares updates for the next year. We will see a refresh, which should bring a couple of styling changes. From what we can see on the test mule, most changes will happen at the front and they will be pretty mild. We are about to see slight revisions on headlights and a new front bumper design. The rear end probably won’t receive any particular update.
Other than these styling tweaks, we also expect to see things like new color options and wheels. On the other hand, the overall layout will remain the same and from what we know so far, there won’t be mechanical updates for the next year. More details will be known in the near future.
Interior updates are coming as well. If you look at the test mule, you can see that the dashboard is covered. We presume that the company prepares a few tweaks, though the biggest novelty should actually be a new steering wheel. Also, we count on updates of the infotainment system and other tech goodies.
On the other hand, the overall cabin layout will remain the same. We are about to see the same cabin design, which offers an impressive combination of luxury, style and comfort. Standard models come with two comfortable rows of seats. The third row is available, but it’s pretty tight and not particularly functional. On the other hand, the first two rows are more than generous with space. Also, the driving position is excellent.
When it comes to the cargo area, standard two-row models offer around 33.3 cubic feet of cargo space with its rear seats upright and 74.9 cubic feet with those seats folded, which is pretty good for the segment.
Without any doubt, the upcoming update will bring novelties in terms of standard equipment. However, we don’t expect to see significant changes, considering that the current model already features a long list of standard equipment. It comes with dual-zone automatic climate control, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, a hands-free power liftgate, sunroof, a 12.3-inch touch screen, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, five USB ports, HD Radio, satellite radio, and wireless device charging.
Of course, the potential additions are on the current list of options. There, we can find things like quad-zone automatic climate control, a cabin air fragrance system, rear sunshades, power soft-close doors, and a panoramic sunroof, as well as a 13- or 25-speaker Burmester sound system.
2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE Engines
Things under the hood won’t change and the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE will continue with a pretty impressive offer of powertrain options. Base models will continue with a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 255 horsepower. Although it offers quite decent performance, we find a 3.0-liter inline-six a much better choice. It puts out around 362 horsepower and it is the best choice in our humble opinion.
Those who look for something peppier can opt for a more powerful version of the six-cylinder, which puts out 429 horsepower or pick a V8. The 4.0-liter V8 puts out around 483 horsepower, but you can also get an AMG version, which uses the same engine but with a max power of 603 horsepower.
All engines come in pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission.
2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE Release Date and Price
We don’t expect that the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE will come much earlier than usual. Instead, it should hit the market later in the year. We presume that base versions will go around 55.000 dollars. The competition in the segment is fierce. Of course, the Lexus RX is an absolute class leader, while the GLE’s biggest rival is BMX X5. There are few more pretty impressive mid-size luxury SUVs on the offer, such as Volvo XC90, Audi Q7, Genesis GV80 etc.
