2024 VW Tiguan Redesign: What We Know So Far

0

The German manufacturer is working on the next generation of one of its biggest moneymakers and the test mule as been spotted on the road for the first time. Although still in the relatively early stage of development, so things about the new model are quite easy to predict. The 2024 VW Tiguan will bring the third generation of this compact crossover and this should be the last version to come with internal-combustion engines. Also, it seems like most of the design changes will be evolutionary.

Although the test mule hides the exterior aesthetics, it looks like the new generation will be bigger. Of course, it will bring new styling, both outside and on the inside, as well as a full load of new tech features. When it comes to powertrain, we will see the upgraded variants of current units, where those offered in Europe will be able to meet the latest Euro 7 emission standards.

The 2024 VW Tiguan should arrive sometime in the second half of the next year.

2024 VW Tiguan Design

The third generation of VW’s compact crossover is on the way and it will bring all kinds of interesting changes. First of all, it will continue to ride on the MQB platform, though probably the updated version, the same one that underpins the Golf Mk8. We expect to see some improvements in terms of the ride quality, as well as some new technologies, in terms of electrification, new driver-assistance features etc.

The test model of the new generation has been spotted on the road for the first time. At this point, it still wears a complete camouflage, but that didn’t stop many enthusiasts from making rendering photos that show a design that takes inspiration from the popular hatchback, as well as the all-electric ID.4. Also, the new generation appears to be bigger than the outgoing model.

Interior

At this point, the interior is still a complete mystery. It is still early to talk details, but we presume that some inspiration may be taken from the ID.4, particularly in terms of tech features, such as a digital instrument cluster and a large infotainment system, which should be designed in a similar manner. Furthermore, we count on further improvements regarding interior quality, even though the current model already stands pretty well in this aspect. So, we expect nothing less in terms of soft-touch materials, attractive color schemes etc.

As we already mentioned, the new 2024 VW Tiguan could feature a little bit bigger dimensions than the current generation. That would probably mean more interior space as well. The current generation is already pretty good in this aspect, as it offers a couple of pretty spacious rows of seats, with a pretty high level of comfort. Also, we expect the Allspace version with three rows of seats.

2024 VW Tiguan Engines

When it comes to the powertrain, we probably won’t see bigger changes but we will see notable improvements. In North America, the current 2.0-liter turbo-four puts out around 184 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque and the latest reports suggest that the new iteration will feature more power, though the numbers are still unknown.

In Europe, this model will also be offered with a smaller 1.5-liter turbo-four, while it looks pretty certain that diesel engines will remain on offer as well. We will see the good-old 2.0-liter TDI in several output variants, which will be updated and upgraded to meet the latest Euro 7 emissions standards.

When it comes to transmission, most versions should continue with a dual-clutch gearbox, while the North American versions continue with a classic torque converter automatic.

Finally, there is a chance to see some sort of electrification, even though there won’t be a fully electric version. Different forms of the hybrid powertrain are expected, including those based on a diesel engine.

2024 VW Tiguan Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2024 VW Tiguan will arrive sometime in the second half of 2023. In North America, the current model starts at around 27.000 dollars and we don’t expect to see a significant increase with the new model. Of course, the competition will remain the same, where some of the key rivals should be models like the Hyundai Tucson, Nissan Rogue, Ford Escape etc.
