The new generation of Kia’s compact crossover is finally coming to North America. While European and Korean versions have been around for a while, the North American model will debut early next year, as the 2023 KIA Sportage. The production version is ready and we expect to see it in showrooms soon. At this point, we already know most things about the new generation and expectations are pretty high.
The new model comes with all kinds of novelties. Of course, the most notable is design, which looks quite controversial. However, other aspects of the vehicle bring notable improvements. This particularly refers to the interior quality and comfort, while there are also new powertrain options to come. Furthermore, the company will introduce some brand-new features, which will improve comfort and overall ride quality.
As we already mentioned, the 2023 KIA Sportage is about to hit the market in the first quarter of 2022.
2023 KIA Sportage Redesign
This redesign brings a lot of interesting novelties. The new generation already debuted in Europe, so we know what to expect from it. Once again, it will share most of its parts with the new Tucson. The two models will share mechanics, but keep in mind that the North American version of the Sportage will be bigger than the one found in Europe. You may count on 108.5 inches in wheelbase, which is pretty much on par with the VW Tiguan, which will provide additional space for the passengers and more cargo room.
Styling-wise, the new generation comes with a completely different approach compared to the outgoing model. You can notice a lot of sharp lines, especially at the front. There, the grille, headlights and front bumper cut each other with super sharp edges, which make this crossover look very futuristic. Many buyers will like the new design, but we are pretty sure that many won’t be impressed with the way new Sportage looks.
The interior design will bring big improvements in various aspects. As we’ve just mentioned, the new model will feature a notably longer wheelbase. This will provide notably more passenger space, especially in the second row, which will accommodate adult passengers with ease. Besides more space for the passengers, we will also see more cargo room. From what we can hear, the new model will feature 40 cubic feet behind the second row, which is quite impressive for a compact SUV.
Besides more space, the 2023 KIA Sportage will also offer more luxury and convenience. The new cabin looks way more upscale and the first thing you’ll notice is a pair of massive screens. However, that’s not the only great thing about the new cabin. The overall aesthetics are really nice, while the materials are finer than before. Finally, the overall build quality is better than before. Features
As we already mentioned, the new 2023 KIA Sportage will come with all kinds of tech features. All models will come standard with a digital instrument cluster, while a bigger 12.3-inch infotainment screen will be available too. Also, things like wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay will be parts of the standard equipment. Among upgrades, we will see things like a Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless charging, premium audio system etc.
When it comes to safety features, all models will come equipped with goodies like forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist etc. Among upgrades, you will find blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, remote parking etc.
2023 KIA Sportage Engines
When it comes to powertrain, we are pretty sure that the 2023 KIA Sportage will mimic the new Hyundai Tucson. Therefore, base versions will feature a familiar 2.5-liter inline-four, which puts out 191 horsepower. A turbocharged 2.5-liter engine with 281 horsepower and significantly better driving dynamics should be offered too.
Naturally, we also count on a couple of electrified versions. The first one will be a classic hybrid, which combines a 1.6-liter turbo-four engine with an electric motor, for a total output of 221 horsepower. We count on a plug-in hybrid version as well, which will use the same turbo-four engine but a more powerful electric motor. The total output will go around 265 horsepower, while you may also count on 33 miles of the all-electric range.
2023 KIA Sportage Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2023 KIA Sportage will hit the market in the first quarter of 2022. We expect that the starting price will go around 26.000 dollars. Key competitors will be models like VW Tiguan, Ford Escape etc.
