The Japanese premium carmaker is preparing a lot of big things for the near future and one of the most interesting novelties will certainly be the new 2022 Lexus LQ. This will be a brand-new model in the lineup, a model that should cause a real earthquake in the segment of full-size crossovers. From what we know so far, the new model won’t come as a replacement for the aged LX, but rather as a completely different type of vehicle.
This will be a genuine crossover, designed to provide ultimate comfort and luxury. Therefore, it’s no wonder it will be based on the LS sedan, with which will share a platform, engines and many more. Also, we can hear a lot of rumors that suggest a wide powertrain offer that could include a hi-performance version with 600+ horsepower as well.
If we can trust unofficial reports, the 2022 Lexus LQ could have a premiere by the end of the year.
2022 Lexus LQ Redesign
The first thing you should know is that the 2022 Lexus LQ won’t be the LX’s successor, as some reports were suggesting. This will be a significantly different model, a flagship crossover. It will ride on a unibody platform and share many parts with the LS sedan. This particularly refers to mechanics, including powertrain. We expect the LQ to set some new standards in the segment, just like the RX did a couple of decades ago. Still, things are much more complicated now, as there are already established players in the segment, such as Mercedes-Benz GLS, BMW X7 etc.
One of the model’s strongest points will certainly be the styling. We count on a heavy influence from the LF-1 Limitless concept, which showed a pretty extravagant coupe-crossover layout, with a long hood and plethora of futuristic details. The production model shouldn’t be much different and should bring the flavor of that amazing concept.
Lexus has always been known for making fantastic interiors, at least in terms of build quality. On the other hand, it’s not a rare thing to see dashboards that look a little bit overdesigned. Fortunately, flagship Lexus models usually stick to classic design solutions, so we expect something similar from the 2022 Lexus LQ as well. Still, we don’t expect to see the same approach as it the LS sedan, which may look a little bit too conventional to some. Instead, we count on a lot of inspiration from the extravagant LC grand tourer, which features one of the best interiors among sports cars.
Without any doubt, the 2022 Lexus LQ will offer plenty of space on the inside. It will probably feature the same wheelbase as the LS, which would mean 123 inches between the axles. That promises plenty of legroom, considering that only two rows of seats. On the other hand, the cargo space probably won’t be that impressive, given the sloping roof design.
The interior is also about to come with a full load of standard equipment. Some of the things that come to mind are leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, and heated and ventilated front seats. Of course, higher trim levels will come with even more things, including finer leather, heated rear seats, massaging front seats, a rear touchscreen on the center console etc.
The same thing goes with tech goodies. Of course, a large 12.3-inch infotainment screen will be standard, but we hope it will be touch-sensitive too. Furthermore, wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa compatibility, built-in navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot and similar things will be standard too.
2022 Lexus LQ Engines
We know a couple of powertrain options that will be on the offer for sure. The first one is a familiar 3.4-liter turbo V6, which puts out 416 horsepower and already powers the LS sedan. The engine comes in pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission and offers more than an adequate amount of power for a vehicle of this type.
Naturally, a hybrid version will also come. We count on a familiar setup, which is based on a 3.5-liter V6 and offers a combined output of 354 horsepower. However, it doesn’t come with a 10-speed automatic gearbox but uses a CVT instead.
While the two aforementioned powertrain options are a certain thing, we are still waiting for the official confirmation for the hi-performance version. Allegedly, this model would come with a new twin-turbo V8 engine, with a max output of more than 600 horsepower. More details should be known in the near future.
2022 Lexus LQ Release Date and Price
At this point, we are still waiting to hear something from the officials about the launch date. On the other hand, rumors suggest a premiere by the end of this year. When it comes to the price, we expect that base versions will go around 80.000 dollars, while the range-topping versions will certainly go way over 100.000 dollars.
