2024 Volvo XC90 Successor Will Go All-Electric

0

The Swedish carmaker has always been known for taking a little bit different design approach, used in a combination with conventional solutions. That’s why everyone is waiting to see how this philosophy will apply to the new era of the automotive industry, the era of electric cars. The Swedish manufacturer already launches the all-electric XC40, while there is also the whole Polestar lineup, a company that’s partially owned by Volvo. Still, many believe that the real deal will come with the 2024 Volvo XC90, which will bring the new generation of the company’s flagship crossover.

Moreover, it looks like the company is planning to change to nameplate a bit, to EX90. In any case, this will be the company’s new flagship model in the lineup and it will come with an all-electric powertrain. Besides modern drivetrain and technologies, the company also promises all kinds of new technology and design solutions, which will help this crossover stand out from the crowd.

The latest reports suggest that the new model should arrive sometime in 2024.

2024 Volvo XC90 Redesign

So, what we are about to see is the new 2024 Volvo XC90 or its successor that could change the nameplate to EX90. In any case, the company’s new mid-size crossover will go all-electric. At this point, we are still waiting for specifics but it is pretty much for sure that this model will share a lot with the upcoming Polestar 3. The two models will share a lot of technologies and design solutions, starting from Geely’s new Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA), which will bring all kinds of novelties, especially in terms of battery technology, charging etc.

When it comes to the exterior design, we presume that the company will take some inspiration from the Recharge concept that was presented a while ago. The styling will be all-new but count on some of Volvo’s familiar design solutions as well, such as the well-known Thor’s Hammer headlights design.

Interior

The Swedish carmaker has been known for making stylish and quality interiors, so the expectations from the EX90 are big. At this point, we can rely only on some concept photos, which should be some pretty interesting design solutions. The dashboard features lots of elegant, horizontal lines, while the center stack is filled with a vertically-oriented infotainment screen. What’s particularly interesting is that there is no classic instrument cluster. Instead, we could see a unit mounted on the steering column, while some sources speculate about an augmented-reality head-up display.

The 2024 Volvo XC90’s successor will probably feature slightly bigger dimensions, so we count on even more space on the inside. The current model is already generous with passenger and cargo space, so the new model could only become even better.

2024 Volvo XC90 Powertrain

When it comes to powertrains, the only thing we know for sure is that internal combustion engines won’t be on offer anymore. This will be an all-electric crossover and from what we know so far, it will come in two variants. Base models will probably feature a single-motor setup, while the dual-motor version will be available.

At this point, it is still early to talk about the exact power figures even though there are some reports that suggest that the base single-motor versions would feature around 400 horsepower, while the dual-motor version would be good for about 455 horsepower.

Battery

We know that the new 2024 Volvo XC90 will be built over advanced 800-v architecture. However, we still don’t know the charging speed, though we expect that the new SUV will be highly competitive in this aspect.

When it comes to the battery capacity, most sources suggest a 100-kWh battery pack, which should provide between 350 and 400 miles of range.

2024 Volvo XC90 Release Date and Price

The 2024 Volvo XC90’s successor is expected to arrive sometime in 2024 but a more precise date is still unavailable. The same thing is with the price, though some sources suggest that base models could go around 70.000 dollars. When it comes to competition, there is a long list of mid-size EV crossovers that will hit the market soon, or that have already been around for a while. Some of the potential rivals are models like Cadillac Lyriq, Mercedes-Benz EQE, Tesla Model X etc.
