2023 Mercedes-Benz GLS Might Receive Mid-Cycle Refresh

The segment of full-size SUVs isn’t about sales numbers or profit. It’s about prestige and the GLS is definitely one of the most prestigious full-size luxury SUVs on the market. The current generation was introduced for the 2020 model year and it still looks incredibly fresh from every aspect. However, the competition is getting tougher as well, so it’s no wonder that many sources suggest updates for the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLS. According to them, we might see some styling changes, along with novelties in other aspects.

Still, these updates won’t change the character of the GLS. The full-size SUV will continue to deliver impressive quality, which manifests in a super-comfortable ride, high-quality interior, full load of standard and available features etc. We also like the fact that the cabin is spacious, while the powertrain lineup consists of some pretty capable units.

Despite the possible updates, we don’t expect to see the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLS coming much earlier than usual.

2023 Mercedes-Benz GLS Design

Design-wise, the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLS might get some updates. It will represent the fourth production year of the current generation, so it’s no wonder that rumors suggest such a scenario. If that happens, we believe that the focus will be on aesthetics. However, even these changes would be pretty subtle. We would expect to see minor tweaks in certain areas, such as the front fascia. Still, the overall shape should remain pretty much the same.

On the other hand, the mechanical aspect of the vehicle definitely won’t change. This SUV is still pretty fresh and has so many great things to offer. we particularly like its advanced suspension setup, which ensures excellent ride quality. The GLS is super comfy, while off-road performances arent’ all that bad either. All models come standard with goodies like all-wheel drive, hill descent control, and an adjustable ride height, while the optional off-road package brings upgrades like off-road driving modes, a two-speed transfer case, and an increased ride height.

Minor interior changes are also possible but keep in mind that the current cabin design already looks pretty impressive. It may look too flashy for someone’s taste, but no one can deny exceptional quality. The materials are super fine, while there is also plenty of attention to detail. Also, there is a long list of standard and available tech and convenience features, which makes this cabin look even more impressive.

Standard models come with three rows of seats and a capacity of seven. You can also get models with the second-row captain’s chairs, while the Maybach version comes with two rows of seats. In all cases, the comfort is excellent and we particularly like the front and second-row seats.

The cargo area offers around 17.4 cubic feet of space behind the third row, 42.7 to 48.7 cubic feet behind the second row and 85 cubic feet of the total cargo volume. Those are decent numbers for a full-size luxury SUV.

Novelties in this aspect are always expected. Still, the current model already comes with all kinds of stuff, so we don’t believe that too many things could change in this aspect. For reference, the current model comes standard with goodies like a 12.3-inch touch screen, a touchpad controller, navigation, voice command, a 13-speaker Burmester stereo, Bluetooth, nine USB ports, satellite radio, HD Radio, wireless device charging, an in-car communication system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, quad-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof, and a parking damage detector.

The current list of available equipment is also pretty impressive and includes goodies like five-zone climate control, remote start, sunroof, the MBUX interior assistant, a 7-inch MBUX tablet for the second row, a 27-speaker Burmester audio system, second-row wireless device charging, and a Wi-Fi hot spot.

2023 Mercedes-Benz GLS Engines

The engine lineup most likely won’t change. Therefore, base models will continue with a 3.0-liter inline-six, which features a max output of 362 horsepower. The average fuel economy is pretty decent for the class, and goes around 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.

While the inline-six offers enough power to satisfy most drivers, there is also an optional 4.0-liter twin-turbo, which comes in three output variants. The standard version is good for 483 horsepower, while the AMG version features a max output of 602 horsepower. Finally, there is the Maybach version, with a max power of 550 horses.

All engines come in pair with a super-smooth 9-speed automatic transmission. When properly equipped, this SUV can tow up to 7.700 pounds.

2023 Mercedes-Benz GLS Release Date and Price

We expect to see the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLS sometime in the last quarter of the year, with a starting price of around 78.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like BMW X7, Cadillac Escalade, Lexus LX etc.
