The GLE is usually seen as a gold standard in the mid-size SUV segment and it’s hard to argue about this. However, the competition doesn’t sleep and rivals are constantly getting better and better. That’s why the German carmaker is about to refresh the current generation, which has been around since 2019. A mid-cycle refresh is on the way and from what we can see, the new version will debut the next year, as the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE.
The test mule has already been spotted a couple of times and we can clearly see that the exterior updates will be the focus. There is a massive camouflage, while various reports also suggest interior updates, which is also covered in the test mule. On the other hand, most experts agree that the powertrain department won’t be changed much and that most engine options are about to remain unchanged.
We expect that the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of 2023.
2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE Design
When it comes to the overall design, we expect to see a typical facelift. Therefore, the focus will probably be on aesthetics. The test mule wears a lot of camouflage, so we may expect changes in different aspects. However, all these changes should be quite subtle, with any radical modifications. We expect to see a few tweaks in areas like headlights and grille, while both bumpers should be slightly revisited as well. Subtle changes are possible in many other areas, while we also count on typical updates, such as new wheels, new color options etc.
On the other hand, we expect no mechanical changes. Therefore, you may count on the same road manners as in the current model, which offers a super smooth and comfortable ride. As a bit of a trade-off, the handling isn’t as engaging as in the case of rivals like the BMW X5 or Porsche Cayenne.
The test mule also shows that a big part of the interior is camouflage. At this point, we don’t know much but it looks like the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE is about to get a new steering wheel. Allegedly, it won’t get the same unit as the new E-Class, but rather the same wheel as the bigger and more exclusive S-Class. A few more modifications to the dashboard are also possible. On the other hand, the dual screen setup that includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and the same-sized infotainment screen is about to carry over.
The overall cabin layout will remain the same, so you may count on familiar seating configurations. Base models will continue with two rows of seats, which are both spacious and very comfortable. They are massive and well-shaped and accommodate adults with ease. On the other hand, the optional third row is extremely tight and we don’t see much use for it.
Naturally, this update is expected to bring some novelties regarding the standard and available equipment. Still, if we consider that the current model already stands pretty well in this aspect, we are pretty sure that the changes won’t be significant. So, most things should remain the same as in the current model.
For reference, the current model comes standard with goodies like synthetic leather upholstery and heated front seats with power adjustments. You can get upgrades like leather upholstery, ventilated and massaging front seats, a heated steering wheel, heated front armrests, heated and cooled cup holders, and heated second-row seats.
When it comes to tech features, the current model comes standard with goodies like a 12.3-inch touch screen, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, navigation, ”Hey Mercedes” virtual assistant, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, HD Radio, satellite radio, wireless device charging, Bluetooth, and five USB ports, while you can also opt for 13- and 25-speaker Burmester sound systems and two additional USB ports
2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE Engines
The powertrain lineup will probably remain the same. Therefore, the base GLE 350 should continue with a 2.0-liter turbo-four that puts out 255 horsepower. The GLE 450 currently uses a 3.0-liter inline-six with 362 horsepower and we don’t expect to see changes either. Finally, the GLE 580 comes with a 4.0-liter V8 that puts out around 483 horsepower.
When it comes to AMG-badged models, the GLE 53 features a supercharged and turbocharged inline-six with 429 horsepower, while the GLE 63 features a twin-turbo V8 with 603 horsepower.
All engines come with a 9-speed automatic transmission.
2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE Release Date and Price
Although it’s still early for a more precise date, we expect that the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE will hit the market sometime in the second half of 2023. The starting price shouldn’t be much higher compared to the current model, which is available at around 58.000 dollars.
