2024 BMW X5: Facelift, M, Redesign, Release Date, Hybrid, Update

The Bavarian carmaker is working on an update of the current generation of its popular mid-size crossover. From what we know so far, the new version is expected to debut for the 2023 model year. Logically, the 2024 BMW X5 would then be a typical carryover model, but the latest reports suggest that not all of the variants will be ready for the update in the next year. It looks like the launch of the refreshed high-performance M version will happen a year later.

In any case, this model year will bring some pretty interesting novelties. While the standard versions will probably carry on with recent changes, the M version will bring some refreshment. At this point, we are still waiting for the details but it looks like the changes won’t be just in terms of aesthetics. We also expect to see some upgrades in terms of the engine power, reports say.

In any case, the 2024 BMW X5 M might arrive a little bit earlier than usual, while the rest of the lineup is expected to hit the market sometime in the last quarter of 2023.

As we’ve just mentioned, this is expected to be the biggest novelty for the 2024 BMW X5. The test mule of what’s believed to be the new M model has already been spotted on the road and we can notice a fine portion of camouflage on both ends of the vehicle. Of course, we expect that more changes will happen at the front, where we can see new, bigger air intakes. The headlights and grille are still covered but we presume some inspiration may be taken from the new XM model. The rear end should come with a couple of upgrades as well.

Besides visual changes, there’s also a big chance to see upgrades under the hood. Allegedly, the good-old 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 could get a little bit more power, just like the new XB7 did. The current version is good for about 600 horsepower.

2024 BMW X5 Design

The rest of the lineup is expected to carry on in the same way. Simply, the 2023 model is about to receive a facelift and we presume that the current generation will remain in production for some more time. Of course, the 2024 BMW X5 will adopt all the changes, which are mostly in terms of aesthetics. The new model looks more aggressive, thanks to the bigger and bolder grille, more massive front bumper, and new headlights.

Mechanically, things will remain pretty much the same as in the initial model. This SUV offers pretty engaging handling but at the same time, the ride is also quite smooth and comfortable.

The same thing is with the interior design, which will also bring a couple of interesting updates for the 2023 model year. That particularly refers to the dashboard design, which will get a new shape and come with new tech features. The latter is mostly about the new infotainment and instrument cluster digital screens, which should be designed in a similar fashion as the new iX all-electric crossover.

The rest of the cabin shouldn’t bring bigger surprises. Therefore, you may count on a couple of spacious and comfortable rows of seats, as well as on the optional third row, which isn’t particularly generous with space.

2024 BMW X5 Engines

Other than the upgraded X5 M, the 2024 BMW X5 should bring familiar powertrain options to the table. Base models will continue with a familiar 3.0-liter inline-six, which currently puts out 335 horsepower. Some sources speculate about the engine upgrade, in which case the max output would go up to 375 horsepower.

On the other hand, the M50i will be renamed to M60i, due to the addition of a mild-hybrid system, which will improve driving dynamics and efficiency. Interestingly, the max output will remain the same, 523 horsepower.

All engine options will come in pair with 8-speed automatic transmission.

2024 BMW X5 Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2024 BMW X5 will arrive sometime in the second half of 2023, with a starting price of around 62.000 dollars. Models like Mercedes-Benz GLE, Audi Q7 and Lexus RX will remain the key competitors.
