2023 BMW Urban X Rumors and Expectations

0

It looks like the Urban X Concept could finally become a serial production model in the next year. Those are the latest reports we are getting about the Bavarian carmaker, which is about to expand its already impressive SUV lineup. The new model would become the new entry-level model in the lineup and it is expected to be offered both with plug-in hybrid and all-electric powertrains. We still don’t know what the new model will be called, so we will call it the 2023 BMW Urban X for now.

The reason for such a move seems obvious. Last year, SUVs and crossovers had a 45% share in BMW’s total sales, which is the highest record ever, 10% higher compared to the previous year. So, there is no doubt that the release of a small city crossover would boost sales even more, especially if we consider that some of the rival companies already have such models in their lineups.

2023 BMW Urban X Design

Design-wise, the 2023 BMW Urban X would be the smallest crossover in the company’s lineup, with something like 4.1 meters in total length. That would put the new crossover with future rivals, such as the Audi Q2, DS 3 Crossback etc.

When it comes to mechanics, we expect no surprise. The new crossover would ride on a familiar UKL platform, the same one that underpins models like BMW X1, X2 etc. Therefore, you may count on a typical FF layout, with the optional all-wheel drive.

Of course, another interesting aspect of this SUV would be its styling. At this point, we still don’t know the details but some rumors speculate about the coupe-like layout, so we might see a bit of a sloping roof. On the other hand, the front end should come in a typical BMW manner, based on the brand’s latest design language.

Interior

At this point, it’s still early to talk about details regarding interior design. Of course, we presume that the dashboard could come with a similar design to the X2 model, considering the shared platform. However, we might also see some new tech features on offer, including a similarly designed infotainment screen and digital instrument cluster, in a similar fashion to the new iX models.

When it comes to seating configuration, count on two rows of seats but keep in mind the model’s size. Therefore, we expect that the second row won’t be particularly generous with space. On the other hand, the front seats should be spacious, massive and supportive.

2023 BMW Urban X Engine

When it comes to the powertrain lineup, the 2023 BMW Urban X would probably come in all kinds of configurations. Base models would probably come with typical gasoline engines. We believe that could be a small 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine, which puts out around 140 horsepower, which would come with both manual and automatic transmission on the offer.

Besides gasoline versions, we also count on a hybrid version. Most likely, that would be the same system as in the  2 Series Active Tourer MPV, with combines the same three-cylinder engine with an electric motor. The gasoline engine powers the front wheels, while the electric motor takes care of the rear axle. The total output goes around 220 horsepower.

Finally, we could see an all-electric version. At this point, details are still unavailable, but we presume that this version would be able to make around 240 miles on a single charge.

2023 BMW Urban X Release Date

The 2023 BMW Urban X is yet to be officially confirmed but various sources suggest it could debut already by the end of this year. More details should come soon.
