For years, we’ve been reading reports about Ford’s monstrous SUV, based on the F-250 HD pickup. These days, the rumors became loud once again and the comeback seems more likely than ever. The original model was produced between 2000 and 2006 and although it came in just a single generation, it left a pretty big mark in the automotive industry, due to its huge size and interesting design. Therefore, we expect nothing less from the rumored 2023 Ford Excursion, which could arrive already in the next year.
When it comes to base design characteristics, we know what to expect from the new Excursion. Once again, this large SUV would come based on the Super Duty pickup. Since it’s been more than two decades since the original’s launch, there’s no doubt that the new model would bring all kinds of novelties regarding design and technologies. At this point, the officials are still quiet.
2023 Ford Excursion Design
Although the 2023 Ford Excursion would come after a really long hiatus, we have no doubt it would bring some pretty familiar things regarding base design. This particularly refers to the platform and most of the mechanics, which would be shared with the F-250 pickup truck. This means the new SUV would also ride on Ford’s light and efficient platform that utilizes aluminum, HSS and other lightweight materials in a pretty big portion.
Another thing that comes to mind is the side. The current-generation Expedition is a pretty big SUV but after the launch of the new Chevy Suburban and GMC Yukon, it looks like the Blue Oval company would use something bigger to keep the pace with GM. The original Excursion features 137.1 inches in wheelbase but if we consider that the new Suburban is good for about 134.1 inches, we presume that the new 2023 Ford Excursion would feature an even longer distance between the axle and bigger overall dimensions.
Finally, there is the matter of styling. This aspect shouldn’t bring bigger surprises either. We presume that the front end would closely resemble the F-250 pickup, though a couple of exclusive details are always expected. On the other hand, the rest of the body should come in a long, wagon-like layout.
When it comes to interior design, the dashboard shouldn’t bring a bigger surprise. We would expect to see the same layout as in the Super Duty models, though we wouldn’t be surprised to see things like nicer materials and exclusive color schemes. Also, we count on a full load of tech and convenience features. This would include the latest SYNC4 infotainment system, which would come with a massive 15.5-inch vertically-oriented touchscreen.
Still, the most important thing about this SUV wouldn’t be the quality and number of features. Instead, we count on plenty of passenger room. Of course, three rows would be standard and we believe that the third row would be able to accommodate adults with ease, to be pretty much as spacious as the first two rows. The seating capacity would go from 6 to 8, depending on the seating configuration, we presume. Logically, we expect some tremendous cargo volume as well.
2023 Ford Excursion Release Engines
This aspect shouldn’t bring bigger surprises. We count on the same lineup as the one that characterizes the F-250. Therefore, the offer would probably start with a 6.2-liter V8, which puts out around 385 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. Of course, the new 7.3-liter V8 would be offered too, with a max output of 430 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque.
Finally, we expect to see a version equipped with Ford’s super-capable 6.7-liter V8 turbodiesel. That engine puts out around 475 horsepower and a tremendous 1.050 pound-feet of torque. With this engine, the new SUV would carry passengers and cargo with ease, while we also count on impressive max towing capacity. Some rumors speculate about more than 12.000 pounds.
2023 Ford Excursion Release Date and Price
Despite the rumors about the 2023 Ford Excursion, the officials are still quiet about this comeback. Therefore, we would recommend you to stay reserved about its arrival. The actual changes to see it once again are big at all. Still, if it arrives eventually, we estimate that base models would cost around 65-70.000 dollars.
