2024 Ford Everest: Hybrid Version in Works?

0

Everest is one of the rare body-on-frame SUVs on today’s market and that’s why we were so happy to see its full redesign the last year. Once again, this mid-size SUV comes designed especially for markets like Australia and South East Asia and the new design made it way better, thanks to the improved ride quality, more technologies and modern powertrain options. The 2024 Ford Everest will come only a year later and from what we know so far, it won’t be just a carryover model, as you may expect.

Although this will be the second production year of the new generation, there are some pretty big novelties to come, according to the latest reports. It looks like the Blue Oval company is preparing a hybrid version of the new SUV. The officials neither confirmed nor denied these reports.

In any case, we expect to see the 2024 Ford Everest sometime in the last quarter of the year, without significant changes in terms of the overall design.

2024 Ford Everest Is Getting Hybrid Powertrain!?

So, even though the 2024 Ford Everest is about to represent the second production year of the new generation, it is expected to bring more novelties. Allegedly, the company is working on a completely new hybrid powertrain, which would be based on a turbo-four engine. Moreover, some sources suggest that the new hybrid powertrain will come as a production of a joint venture between Ford and Volkswagen and that it would feature a plug-in hybrid setup. This makes a lot of sense, considering that the new VW Amarok is heavily based on the new Ranger, which is Everest’s closest sibling.

The rest of the lineup should remain the same. Therefore, base models would come with a good-old 2.0-liter turbodiesel, which puts out around 154kW (210 horsepower) and 500Nm of torque. That’s pretty much the same engine that powered the previous generation, which besides a decent amount of power, also offers pretty good fuel economy, which is rated at 8.3 L/100km, according to the manufacturer.

The new generation also brought a more capable, 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel, which is good for about 186kW(250hp) and 590 Nm of torque. Of course, it offers notably better performance than the base engine but also consumes more fuel, around 10 liters per 100km.

The new Everest is also available with a petrol version in selected markets, with a good-old 2.3-liter turbo-four, which is rated at 270 horsepower. Just like diesel units, this engine also comes with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

2024 Ford Everest Design

As mentioned, this will be the second production year of the new generation and therefore, we don’t believe that bigger changes in terms of the overall design won’t bring any notable change. Instead, we expect to see the same overall design, with the updated T6 platform that brings notable improvements compared to the previous generation. The handling is better, while the ride is smoother, thanks to the new suspension setup. At the same time, this is still the good-old body-on-frame Everest, with strong off-road potential.

The same thing goes for aesthetics. We will see the same styling, which came completely new the last year. There is the new face, with a lot of similarities with the new Ranger. The new Everest looks more aggressive and more attractive than before, and that refers to the overall shape as well, which seems bolder and more muscular than before. The best the 2024 Ford Everest could bring in terms of updates are minor tweaks like new color options.

Interior

As for the interior design, we don’t expect to see any significant changes. Simply, the recent redesign brought so many important novelties, starting from the way better build quality and much nicer materials. The new generation looks way more refined and feels more passenger-friendly than before, while the new tech features make this SUV feel very modern and car-like.

In terms of the passenger space, things are pretty much the same as they used to be in the previous model. Base versions feature two rows of seats, while you can also get models with three rows and a capacity for seven. That third row isn’t particularly generous with space but can be quite functional. A mitigating circumstance is that rivals aren’t much better in this aspect either. Moreover, their third rows are usually even tighter. We are talking about models like Toyota Fortuner and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, which are Everest’s key competitors.

2024 Ford Everest Release Date

Despite the potential powertrain updates, we don’t believe that the 2024 Ford Everest could arrive before the last quarter of the year. The current model starts at around 53.000 AUD.
