2024 Toyota Fortuner Redesign: What We Know So Far

0

The Fortuner may not be a familiar name in North America and Europe and it is a well-known machine in parts of the world like Asia and Australia. There, it is one of the highest-renowned SUVs and one of the rare models that still rides on a good-old body-on-frame platform. The current generation has been around since 2015 and it looks like the Japanese manufacturer is preparing big novelties for the next year. The 2024 Toyota Fortuner is to receive a full redesign, according to the latest reports.

At this point, we still don’t know many details about the new Fortuner. Still, we may presume that the new generation will once again share a lot of parts with the legendary Hilux, which is also about to get a full redesign for the next year. This overhaul will bring all kinds of improvements, starting from an upgraded powertrain, nicer on-road manners, lots of new tech features etc.

We expect that the 2024 Toyota Fortuner will arrive sometime in the second half of 2023.

2024 Toyota Fortuner Design

The 2024 Toyota Fortuner is about to get a full redesign and from what we know so far, changes will be various. Still, the base design approach won’t change and once again, this SUV will ride on a genuine body-on-frame platform. It will share most of the parts with Hilux once again, which means it will ride on the new TNGA-F platform in this case. The new platform should bring all kinds of improvements, especially in terms of ride quality.

We expect to see a more refined suspension setup and a lower center of gravity. At the same time, we have no doubt that the new Fortuner will retain excellent off-road capabilities. This includes all kinds of off-road features as well, such as locking differential, low-range gearing, hill descent control etc..

Exterior

When it comes to the exterior design, we presume that the overall design won’t change much. We don’t expect to see a significant increase in size, including the wheelbase. Simply, such an increase would compromise the off-road potential and we are pretty sure that no Fortuner fan wants to see such a scenario.

Of course, we count on a new styling. It’s still early to talk about the details, but we presume that the front end would look similar to the next-generation Hilux. We expect that both models will take some inspiration from other BoF models in Toyota’s lineup, such as Tundra and Sequoia.

Interior

The current generation of Fortuner looks nice from the inside, even though it puts functionality ahead of aesthetics. We presume that the next generation will continue in a similar way, though we definitely expect to see some improvements in this aspect. This particularly refers to the materials, which should be notably nicer. On the other hand, the build quality is already at a pretty high level. Of course, the new model should also come packed with all kinds of the latest tech features, including the new infotainment system, new connectivity features etc.

Considering that the new model probably won’t feature bigger changes in size, we presume that the amount of passenger space will also remain pretty much the same. So, you may count on a couple of pretty spacious and comfortable rows of seats, while the third row will remain tight and usable for kids only.

2024 Toyota Fortuner Engines

Big novelties are expected under the hood as well. At this point, we know for sure that the current 2.8-liter turbodiesel will carry on. It currently puts out around 201 horsepower and 500Nm of torque but the new version could come in a combination with a mild-hybrid setup, which would improve efficiency and maybe also bring up the numbers.

Besides the familiar diesel unit, many expect to see a gasoline version of the new Fortuner. That model would probably come with the new 2.4-liter turbo-four with 275 horsepower. The same engine could be used as the basis for the rumored hybrid version that would feature, we estimate, around 350 horsepower and come coupled with a new 10-speed automatic transmission.

Finally, we can hear rumors about the high-performance version. Allegedly, that model would come with a 3.4-liter turbo V6, with a max output of 348 horsepower. However, the actual chances to see such a model aren’t too big.

2024 Toyota Fortuner Release Date and Price

We believe that the 2024 Toyota Fortuner could arrive sometime in the second half of 2023. The Australian version currently starts at around A$50.000 and we don’t expect to see a significant increase in the new model. Of course, the competition will remain the same, with rivals like Ford Everest, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Isuzu MU-X etc.
