With its super-attractive styling, the C-HR is definitely among the more interesting models in the class. Moreover, the attractive exterior and elegant interior are some of the key selling points of this crossover which, on the other hand, comes with a lot of compromises. For example, it is one of the rare models in the class that doesn’t offer all-wheel drive. Furthermore, the cargo area is very small, while the rearward visibility is poor. Finally, the engine definitely lacks power. Despite all the drawbacks, the 2024 Toyota C-HR probably won’t feature more important changes.
Instead, we expect to see a familiar design with familiar features. The current generation has been in North America since 2018 and it looks fresh even today. That’s why the biggest updates we could see are the minor ones, such as new color options or a few additions to the list of standard equipment. Other than that, things will remain the same.
We expect that the 2024 Toyota C-HR will hit the market sometime in the second half of 2023.
2024 Toyota C-HR Design
As we already mentioned, the 2024 Toyota C-HR shouldn’t feature more important updates. We expect to see a familiar layout, which has been pretty much unchanged since 2016, when this model was introduced. The company did some updates in 2020, which included some revisions to the front end. However, the styling remained mostly the same, so we have no reason to believe that the next year’s model could be any different.
This refers to the mechanics as well. The C-HR was one of the first vehicles to feel the benefits of the company’s new TNGA platform. The chassis is calibrated well, while the suspension setup is well-balanced. As a result, the car offers composed handling that’s sporty and precise but also absorbs road imperfections pretty well. The brakes are also surprisingly good, which also has a great impact on the overall ride quality.
Interior
The cabin is a kind of mixed bag. On one side, the dashboard looks very elegant. It features a simple and clean design, in a combination with quality materials and a lot of attention to detail. Furthermore, we like the driving position, as well as a pretty intuitive infotainment system.
On the other hand, there are also many things to complain about, starting from the second row of seats that’s not just tight but also feels quite claustrophobic. Moreover, the rearward visibility is poor, while the cargo area is very small. In numbers, it offers just around 19.1 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats, while the total cargo area goes up to 37 cubic feet. Those are some of the smallest numbers in the class.
Features
We could see a few additions to the list of standard equipment though most things will probably remain the same. Therefore, base models should come standard with goodies like an 8-inch touch screen, a Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth, a USB port, satellite radio, a six-speaker stereo, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, Apple CarPlay, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, and dual-zone automatic climate control. There aren’t many options available, and HD radio is one of the rare ones.
Traditionally, Toyota offers a pretty generous list of standard safety features. All models come standard with lane trace assist, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, forward automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, rearview camera, automatic high beams, road sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert etc. Adaptive headlights are practically the only optional safety feature.
2024 Toyota C-HR Engine
Unfortunately, the 2024 Toyota C-HR will continue with just one powertrain option on offer. Unlike the European-market version, which is available it two hybrid variants, the U.S. model comes only with a 2.0-liter inline-four, which is good for 144 horsepower and 139 pound-feet of torque. With these numbers, it’s easy to conclude that the overall performance isn’t great. The C-HR is great for daily commuting but it definitely feels underpowered on the open road. Also, the engine comes paired with a CVT, which can be noisy when pushed hard.
On the other hand, you may count on pretty good fuel economy, which goes around 27 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. As we already mentioned, FWD is the only layout available.
2024 Toyota C-HR Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2024 Toyota C-HR will arrive sometime in the second half of 2023, with a starting price of around 25.000 dollars. Models like Buick Encore and Mitsubishi Outlander Sport are some of the key competitors.
