In the world of off-roaders, there is no other SUV that offers such a great combination of luxury, off-road capability and reliability. That’s the reason why the Land Cruiser is one of the most beloved cars in various parts of the world. The new generation has just arrived and it’s here to justify the iconic reputation. Moreover, it looks like the Japanese manufacturer prepares reinforcements, in the form of a new, hybrid powertrain option.
Other than the possible addition of a hybrid powertrain, we don’t expect that the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser could bring bigger changes. We expect to see a familiar layout, which was just introduced and which has brought a lot of improvement over the previous generation. This model offers excellent off-road performance but also comes with plenty of luxury, as well as a full load of standard equipment.
Despite the potential update, we don’t expect to see this model much earlier than usual but rather in the last quarter of 2023.
2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Could Get Hybrid Powertrain
As we’ve just mentioned, some sources speculate about the hybrid powertrain, for the first time in a Land Cruiser. The new generation already brought a big novelty in this aspect, as the good-old 5.7-liter V8 was finally retired. The replacement came in the form of the new 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6, which puts out around 409 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. Thanks to the increased torque, it provides much better driving dynamics compared to the V8, while you may also count on a big improvement in terms of fuel economy. The V6 returns around 17 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway.
For the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser, some reports suggest an additional powertrain option. That model would come with a hybrid setup, based on the turbo V6 engine, with a combined output of 437 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque. Besides more power, this powertrain also offers improved fuel economy, which would probably go around 21 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.
2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Design
Other than the powertrain, the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser shouldn’t feature bigger changes. The overall layout should remain the same, with all the novelties that were introduced with the recent redesign. The new model rides on the company’s new TNGA-F platform, which has provided some significant weight savings, as well as more engaging handling and better comfort.
At the same time, the Land Cruiser has remained as capable. Thanks to the new, pretty advanced suspension setup, the ride is comfortable, while the off-road performance is at a super-high level. You can even opt for the off-road version of the SUV, which brings further upgrades, such as three locking differentials, off-road-tuned suspension, a two-speed transfer case and more.
The same thing is with the cabin design. We won’t see any changes, so you may count on the same cabin design, characterized by great build quality and a fine selection of materials. Most surfaces are soft to the touch, while there is also a lot of attention to detail. Also, we like the combination of conservative aesthetics and modern tech features, which will help this cabin age with style.
The front seats are well-designed, some of the best in the class. You may count on excellent support, along with a high level of comfort. The second row is also spacious and comfortable, and it accommodates adults with ease. On the other hand, the third row isn’t all that generous with space and works best for kids.
One of the many things we like about this SUV is that it comes with a full load of standard equipment. Base models come standard with goodies like a 12.3-infotainment screen, a 7-inch instrument cluster digital screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 10-speaker audio system, 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, 8-way power-adjustable passenger seat, heated and ventilated front seats, quad-zone climate control, wireless charging, head-up display and many more.
The list of standard equipment is pretty impressive, so it makes sense that the list of options is relatively short. Some of the interesting things you can get are goodies like a sunroof, memory seats, heated and ventilated second-row seats, a center cool box, a power tailgate etc.
2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser will arrive sometime in the second half of 2023, while the price will largely depend on the market. Some of the most important markets for the Land Cruiser are Australia, where the price starts at around AU$128.000, and the Middle East, where this SUV starts at around AED230.000. Key competitors are models like Mercedes-Benz G-Class, Range Rover, Infiniti QX80 etc.
