The legendary nameplate has been revived recently and it looks like Ford did a good job with it. Critics about the standard model are pretty good, but the most anticipated version is yet to come. Of course, we are talking about the ultimate off-road version, which would come as the 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor. The new model is still under development and even though the test mule still wears a camouflage, we know a lot of things that will characterize this capable off-roader.
Naturally, the first that comes to mind is the chassis and suspension design. Here, we count on a lot of upgrades. Furthermore, we are about to see a new engine under the hood, with even more power and torque. Naturally, the 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor would come with additional off-road hardware, as well as with a lot of exclusive styling details that will emphasize its performance character.
We expect to see this model sometime in the second half of the year.
2022 Ford Bronco Raptor Redesign
Of course, the overall design will be based on the standard Bronco, but you may count on a full load of upgrades as well. This refers to both mechanical and visual changes. When it comes to mechanics, everything will be dedicated to off-roading. So, you may count on a plethora of exclusive features and design solutions, including a completely new suspension setup, with higher ground clearance, more travel etc. Also, we expect to see an upgraded version of the AWD system, with selectable drive modes and other goodies. Details about these things are yet to come and one of the rare things we know for sure is that the test mule wears massive 37-inch off-road tires.
Styling
Without any doubt, the 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor will come with loads of styling upgrades, in order to accentuate its off-road capabilities. In this aspect, we expect to see an approach that’s quite similar to F-150 Raptor. So, a new front face is pretty much a certain thing. This would include a new grille, with a large “Ford” lettering and lots of black plastics. Furthermore, we count on upgraded bumpers, exclusive wheels and similar things.
It’s also very likely that the 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor will come with exclusive color options in the offer. Also, we will probably see similar graphics to those found in the F-150 Raptor.
2022 Ford Bronco Raptor Engine
Although the exact engine for the 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor is still a mystery, one thing is for sure – we will see more power. Standard models come with two engine options in the offer, with either 300 or 330 horsepower. This version will be more powerful and there are two possible engines that can find the place under the hood.
One of them is a new 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6, which puts out around 400 horsepower. This engine already powers a couple of new Ford models, including the new Explorer, and it proved itself as a pretty capable option.
On the other side, the other possibility includes a well-known 3.5-liter V6 from F-150 Raptor. It may be older, but it’s also more powerful. With 450 horsepower, it promises excellent performances and Ford’s experience with this engine in pickup trucks is probably the main reason why we see it as a more probable choice for the new hi-performance SUV.
Interior
When it comes to interior design, we expect to see a couple of exclusive features as well. However, the overall layout shouldn’t be much different compared to the standard version. The dashboard might come with new materials and color schemes but its design will remain the same.
At this point, it’s still hard to say if the 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor is about to come just in a four-door version, or we are about to see a short-wheelbase variant with two doors as well. On the other side, we are pretty sure it will be available both with a hardtop and in a soft-top variant, as well as with removable doors and roof.
Considering that we are talking about a version that will cost a real fortune, we have no doubt that the list of standard equipment will be pretty long. It should include tech goodies like a large touchscreen, smartphone integration, Wi-Fi hotspot etc. Standard models will probably come with rubberized flooring and marine-grade vinyl upholstery, while leather upholstery should be an option.
2022 Ford Bronco Release Date and Price
Ford’s management is still quiet when it comes to the announcement of the launch date, so the best we could say at this point is the second half of the year. The price is also a mystery, but we estimate the new Raptor will start at around 62.000 dollars. When it comes to the competition, there is no doubt that the Wrangler Rubicon 392 will be the key rival.
