2023 Volvo XC90 Electric: What to Expect

0

The automotive world is changing and the Swedish manufacturer has accepted this fact a while ago. They have been working on all-electric cars for a pretty long time and have already come up with such a version of the current-generation XC40. However, it’s now time for something bigger, for a vehicle that will push the boundaries and represent the brand’s flagship model. Of course, we are talking about the 2023 Volvo XC90 Electric successor, which is still a bit of mystery, as we can find a lot of speculations regarding the new model’s nameplate. Some sources speculate about Embla name, but the officials are still quiet.

In any case, we expect that this model will replace the current generation of the XC90, which has been around for a pretty long time. The new generation will bring a lot of novelties and represent some brand-new technologies. This refers to the battery technology as well, which should bring a 50% improved efficiency compared to the current XC40 Recharge all-electric subcompact crossover.

The all-new 2023 Volvo XC90 Electric successor could arrive already in the next year.

2023 Volvo XC90 Electric Design

Although it is still early to talk about more precise things about the 2023 Volvo XC90 Electric successor, we can speculate about base design solutions. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the architecture. From what we know so far, the Swedish manufacturer will introduce the new generation of the SPA platform, which will be highly modular and underpin pretty much a complete lineup. We count on various improvements, especially in terms of efficiency, which will be achieved by new technologies, but also by the use of new, lighter materials.

The current generation has been around since 2014 but it still looks surprisingly good. It feels fresh and competitive but from what we can see in the rendering photos, the new all-electric SUV will bring a completely new design language. Still, the overall layout won’t change drastically. We will still see Volvo’s familiar approach to the SUV design, which combines high ground clearance with station wagon body style elements, which gives a specific flavor to the Swedish brand.

When it comes to dimensions, it’s still early to talk about details. Still, we believe that the 2023 Volvo XC90 Electric successor won’t be much bigger than the current model. We expect to see similar proportions, which would also mean a similar amount of interior space. We will get on that in a moment.

Interior

The new all-electric crossover is still in the early stage of development, so details about the interior design are still unavailable. However, we’ve just mentioned that the new model will keep similar dimensions, which clearly indicates that the 2023 Volvo XC90 Electric successor will come with three rows of seats and a capacity of seven, along with a pretty generous cargo area.

On the other hand, we can only imagine what the new aesthetics would look like. We presume that the dashboard would feature a simplistic design, with lots of the latest tech solutions. Of course, massive screens are the first thing that comes to mind, while some sources also suggest side screens instead of mirrors in some markets. Finally, we expect that the company will introduce Level 4 autonomous driving capability.

2023 Volvo XC90 Electric Powertrain

First and foremost – this will be an all-electric crossover. We expect at least two configurations on the offer, with different setups and power outputs. Most likely, base models will already come with electric motors on both axles, featuring all-wheel drive. Higher trim levels would come with more powerful electric motors, or maybe even with additional motors.

When it comes to the battery capacity, the numbers are still unavailable. On the other hand, the latest reports suggest that the Swedish manufacturer will introduce a new technology, which will improve efficiency significantly. As a result, the max range should go around 620 miles.

2023 Volvo XC90 Electric Release Date and Price

Many believe that the 2023 Volvo XC90 Electric successor could arrive already in the next year. The price is still a mystery, while we believe that the new model will be assembled in the Ridgeville plant, South Carolina, along with the Polestar 3 model.
