By The automotive industry is moving toward inevitable electrification and small cars and SUVs are among the first affected segments. Jeep has just released its small all-electric SUV in Europe and it’s just a matter of time before we see something similar in North America. However, that doesn’t mean that the Renegade will be discontinued any time soon. Instead, the company plans to keep it in production for several more years and, therefore, even some updates are preparing, to keep the model fresh and competitive. Allegedly, the 2024 Jeep Renegade will receive notable updates and we expect to see changes in various aspects.
From what we know so far, there will be a new styling, with updates to the front end and a few more areas. Moreover, interior changes seem very likely, while some sources also speculate about powertrain upgrades. Despite the possible changes, we don’t believe that the new model could arrive much earlier than usual. We expect to see it in the last quarter of the year.
2024 Jeep Renegade Design
So, what we expect to see is a comprehensive update, with changes in various aspects. Of course, the first thing that comes first is the styling, which should keep this model fresh and competitive for a few more years. We presume we could see the same changes that were introduced for the Brazilian market model recently. That refresh brought a new grille design, along with a reshaped bumper, slightly revised headlights and redesigned hood. Updates in other areas are possible too.
On the other hand, we don’t believe that mechanical changes could happen all that much. Instead, things should remain largely the same as in the current model, which already offers a surprisingly smooth ride for the segment. There isn’t much athleticism in this SUV, but the comfort is pretty impressive on the other hand.
Interior
We could also see some updates on the inside, considering that the current model doesn’t look particularly attractive in this aspect. We presume the company could introduce similar changes we recently saw in Compass, so things like a new steering wheel, a new center stack with a new infotainment system come to mind first. A new, digital instrument cluster, along with nicer materials and new color schemes, also seems possible.
Still, these updates won’t change the overall cabin layout. We will see the same seating configuration and the same amount of passenger space, which are some of the strongest points of this SUV. The amount of legroom is good in both rows, while the boxy shape provides plenty of headroom, even for taller passengers. On the other hand, the cargo area isn’t all that impressive, as the Renegade offers around 18.5 cubic feet behind the second row and 50 cubic feet in total.
Features
Naturally, this is one of the aspects that could bring the biggest updates. We already talked about the possibility to see new tech features, such as a bigger infotainment screen and a digital instrument cluster. Of course, other aspects, such as comfort, convenience and safety features could bring novelties as well.
Let’s take a look at some of the key features of the current model. The current model comes standard with goodies like an 8.4-inch touch screen, navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, a USB port, HD Radio, satellite radio and a six-speaker stereo, as well as remote keyless entry, push-button start, dual-zone climate control etc. So, the additions could also come from the current list of options, such as a nine-speaker stereo, proximity keyless entry, remote start, ambient lighting and a panoramic sunroof, for example.
The same is with safety features, where base models currently come with a rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, forward collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. Some of the options that could potentially become part of the standard equipment are rear parking sensors, parallel and perpendicular park assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams etc.
2024 Jeep Renegade Engine
As for the powertrain, the current model comes with a familiar 1.3-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 177 horsepower and 210 pound-feet of torque. It comes in pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission and standard four-wheel drive. We are pretty sure it will carry on for the next year.
The only problem with that engine is that it isn’t particularly efficient. It returns just around 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, so it’s no wonder some sources suggest that the North American market could finally see a plug-in hybrid version, which has been on sale in Europe for a while. That system is also based on the 1.3-liter turbo-four but puts out 240 horsepower.
2024 Jeep Renegade Release Date and Price
Despite the potential updates, we don’t believe that the next year’s model could arrive before the last quarter of 2023. The starting price for the 2024 Jeep Renegade should go around 30.000 dollars, while models like Subaru Crosstrek, Mazda CX-30 and Honda HR-V will certainly remain some of the key competitors.
