After the last year’s refresh, the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek is about to continue without more important changes. Another reason why we believe in such a scenario is that the next year will be the fifth production year of the current generation. After that, we expect a full redesign for the 2023 model years. So, the next year’s model will hardly bring anything new, though there is always a chance to see minor updates like a few novelties to the list of standard equipment.
You may count on a familiar layout. This crossover still has a lot of great things to offer, starting from a spacious and practical cabin, equipped with lots of standard equipment, especially regarding safety features. Also, we like the good fuel economy, though the powertrain would use a little bit more power. Like any other Subaru (except for the BRZ), the Crosstrek comes standard with all-wheel drive.
As there are no significant changes to come, we presume that the launch date will be scheduled for the last quarter of the year.
2022 Subaru Crosstrek Redesign
The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek will continue with a familiar design. That means you may count on a familiar crossover layout, which is heavily based on the legendary Impreza. Not many things have changed since the initial launch four years ago. However, the last year’s refresh has brought a couple of new styling details, such as a revised front bumper, revised grille etc. Still, the overall appearance didn’t change too much.
Mechanically, this is a typical Subaru. You may count on the company’s well-known AWD system, while the suspension setup is rather on a soft side. The ride is comfortable, but the handling isn’t particularly engaging. There is a bit of body roll in corners, but that’s mostly because of the vehicle’s pretty respectable 8.7 inches of ground clearance.
On the inside, you may count on a familiar layout that hasn’t changed after the recent refresh. The cabin is well-designed and functional. Unlike some previous Subaru models, this one comes with pretty nice materials and very good overall build quality. Everything looks attractive, while the ergonomics are also pretty good. Finally, even the base models come with a decent amount of tech goodies and look upscale.
The seating position is pretty high and ensures excellent visibility. The front seats are very spacious and offer pretty good support. There’s plenty of room in the second row as well, so we can say that this is one of the rare subcompact crossovers that accommodate adults in both rows comfortably. The cargo area also offers respectable numbers. You may count on about 21 cubic feet behind the second row and 55 cubic feet of the total cargo volume.
The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek might bring few additions to the list of standard equipment but we are pretty sure that most of the things are about to remain the same as in the current model. Therefore, base models should come standard with goodies like automatic climate control, a 6.5-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a four-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, and a USB port. Higher trim levels also offer upgrades like a moonroof, push-button start, keyless entry, an 8-inch touch screen, navigation, a Wi-Fi hot spot, three additional USB ports, HD Radio, satellite radio, and a six- or eight-speaker stereo.
When it comes to safety, you may count lots of standard and available features. Some of the highlights are goodies like reverse automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision warning, forward automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control.
2022 Subaru Crosstrek Engines
No surprises are expected under the hood. The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek will continue with the same base engine, which is a 2.0-liter flat-four, which puts out 152 horsepower. Of course, it comes standard with all-wheel drive, while you can choose between manual and CVT transmission. The engine isn’t particularly powerful, but we like its good fuel economy. You may count on about 28 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.
If you’re up for something more capable, you can opt for a 2.5-liter engine, which is good for 182 horsepower. This engine can also be paired with a CVT gearbox and it offers a little bit better performance. The average fuel economy goes around 27 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway.
2022 Subaru Crosstrek Release Date and Price
Since there are no significant changes to come for the next year, we presume that the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek will arrive sometime late in the year. The starting price shouldn’t change too much either, so base models should go around 23.000 dollars. Some of the key competitors are models like Honda HR-V, Nissan Rogue Sport, Mazda CX-30 etc.
