2023 Volvo XC40 Recharge: Facelift or Redesign

0

Last year, the Swedish manufacturer presented its first all-electric crossover. It came as the XC40 Recharge, based on the standard XC40 model. Even though it’s still pretty fresh, it looks like we could see some updates for the next year. Simply, the standard model has been around since 2019 and it’s time for a mid-cycle refresh. So, the 2023 Volvo XC40 recharge will adopt some of these changes as well. At this point, we are still waiting for the details.

While the details about changes are still to come, we can make some predictions. Most likely, the changes will be about aesthetics. We may see a couple of new styling details, as well as a couple of new things on the inside. Considering the model’s fresh nature, we presume that the drivetrain department won’t change. We count on a crossover that offers a spacious and well-insulated cabin, strong acceleration, composed handling and lots of other good things that make it one of the best models in the class.

At this point, we still don’t know the launch date but we presume that could happen sometime in the second half of the year.

2023 Volvo XC40 Recharge Design

Design-wise, the 2023 Volvo XC40 will remain largely the same. This particularly refers to the mechanics, where this small SUV stands pretty well. It rides well and offers a great balance between comfort and performance.

On the other hand, we may see some changes regarding aesthetics. The current model already comes with lots of exclusive detail, notably different compared to the standard model. However, the standard model is about to get a facelift, so we may expect to see a few changes on the Recharge as well. This particularly refers to the front end, while we also count on updates in terms of new wheels, color options and similar things.

Interior

On the inside, the 2023 Volvo XC40 could bring things like new color schemes and a few tweaks to the center console. However, most of the cabin will certainly remain the same. Simply, the current design is already pretty impressive, characterized by elegant aesthetics, high-end materials, and excellent build quality. Furthermore, the sound insulation is great.

When it comes to seating, this is one of the more spacious models in the segment. Both rows are spacious enough to accommodate adult passengers, while the front seats are massive and supportive. However, the cargo area isn’t that generous with space. While the standard model offers below-average capacity for the segment, the electric model is even worse. You may count on no more than 17 cubic feet behind the second row, which is a way lower rating compared to classmates like BMW X1 or Audi Q3. On the other hand, that’s a decent rating for a small electric crossover.

Features

We may see a couple of new things in terms of standard and available features but most of the things should remain the same. This includes the trim level organization as well.

So, the base model called Pure should come standard with things like 19-inch wheels, keyless entry and ignition, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, Google-sourced infotainment system, power-adjustable and heated front seats, leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control etc.

The Ultimate trim may get a couple of new things as well, though it should remain mostly the same. This means options like adaptive cruise control, heated rear system, 20-inch wheels, premium audio system etc.

When it comes to safety, all models should come standard with things like a 360-degree camera, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring and more.

2023 Volvo XC40 Recharge Engine

This aspect shouldn’t bring changes. So, you may count on a setup that consists of a couple of electric motors, with one powering the front wheels and the other powering the rear wheels. The total output goes all-away up to 402 horsepower, so there’s no doubt that we are talking about a pretty capable vehicle. For example, 0-60 time goes under 4.5 seconds.

The system includes a 75-kWh battery pack, which is big enough to ensure 223 miles on a single charge. Speaking of charging, this SUV can be charged with a fast charger, but also with home 240-volt outlets.
