2023 Volvo XC60: Preview, Recharge, Redesign, Changes, Electric, Polestar

0

Volvo’s compact crossover has just been updated and that’s a clear indicator that the current generation is about to remain in production for some more time. Therefore, the 2023 Volvo XC60 is about to carry on without bigger changes. We are about to see a familiar design, with all the novelties that were introduced last year. The novelties were numerous – under the hood, in terms of the styling and on the inside.

So, you may count on a crossover that has so many great things to offer. We like its capable engines and smooth ride. Furthermore, the XC60 features one of the nicest cabins in the class, with the excellent build quality and lots of tech features. This cabin is also quite spacious and comfortable, while the list of standard equipment is pretty long. Still, the XC60 isn’t without flaws. The biggest complaint goes to the lack of athleticism, while the infotainment system isn’t particularly easy to use either.

We expect that the 2023 Volvo XC60 will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year.

2023 Volvo XC60 Design

We don’t expect to see changes in this aspect. The 2023 Volvo XC60 should continue in the same way, featuring all the novelties that were introduced last year. Among these novelties, we can see a new styling, which brings a couple of subtle but pretty effective changes. We like the revised grille, while the new bumper loos more aggressive. Also, there are new wheels designs.

Still, the overall layout is the same as in the initial version of this generation. The XC60 rides on the SPA platform and features an FF layout. That may be one of the reasons for the lack of athleticism. Still, most drivers will rather appreciate the smooth and comfortable ride this crossover offers.

Interior

Once again, we don’t expect to see changes. The recent update didn’t bring any particular interior changes but that’s not an issue at all. This crossover still features one of the nicest cabin designs in the class. The dashboard design is clean and elegant, while we particularly like the materials, which are soft to the touch but also seem quite durable. The build quality is great, as well as the attention to detail.

Besides excellent quality, this cabin is very spacious and comfortable. It is pretty airy, while the front seats are some of the best in the class. They are comfortable, massive and supportive. Furthermore, they are highly adjustable, which allows the driver to find perfect position pretty easily. The second row is also very spacious and accommodates adults with ease.

The cargo area offers around 22.4 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and a total of 63.3 cubic feet behind the front seats, which is pretty good for the class.

Features

Considering the recent update, we presume that the 2023 Volvo XC60 won’t feature too many changes in this aspect. Most things should remain the same. So, base models should come standard with goodies like dual-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 9-inch touch screen, Android Auto, a Google maps navigation system, Bluetooth, wireless device charging, HD Radio, satellite radio, a 10-speaker stereo, and a Wi-Fi hot spot. The list of options should include goodies like quad-zone climate control, proximity keyless entry, a 14-speaker Harman Kardon stereo or a 15-speaker Bowers & Wilkins.

The same thing is with safety features. So, all models should come standard with a rearview camera, rain-sensing windshield wipers, rear parking sensors, adaptive headlights, blind-spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, rear cross-traffic alert, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking etc.

2023 Volvo XC60 Engines

Things under the hood will certainly remain the same. The recent update has brought some updates and now gasoline versions come with a mild-hybrid setup. The base 2.0-liter turbo-four puts out around 247 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque and it is now called B5. The B6 adds a supercharger, while the max output goes up to 295 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque.

Also, there is a plug-in hybrid version, which combines the turbocharged/supercharged engine with a more powerful electric motor, so the max output now goes around 455 horsepower. Besides the more powerful electric motor, this model now also comes with a bigger battery pack, which ensures 32 miles of the all-electric range.

All engines come in pair with an 8-speed automatic transmission, which is smooth and very refined.

The competition in the segment is extremely tough, while some of the key competitors are models like Lexus NX, Mercedes-Benz GLC etc.
