The popular mid-size crossover has been around for a long time and it is still one of the household names in the class. The current generation is still among the best models in the class and the Bavarian carmaker wants to retain that position. So, it looks like we are about to see an update. It looks like the 2023 BMW X5 is about to receive a facelift. At this point, we are still waiting for the details.
This will be the fifth production year of the generation, so a mid-cycle update makes perfect sense. The testing model has already been spotted and despite the camouflage, it shows rather subtle styling changes. Besides exterior updates, we could see some novelties on the inside as well. On the other hand, the engine lineup will probably remain the same.
We expect that the 2023 BMW X5 will hit the market sometime in the second half of 2022.
2023 BMW X5 Redesign
Design-wise, this should be a typical facelift. The test mule has already been spotted on the road and it wears a bit of camouflage. From what we can see, the changes won’t be significant. We won’t be seeing new super-large grille designs as we did in new M3 and M4 models. The changes will rather be subtle and expect nothing but minor tweaks to the front fascia. Few more tweaks are expected in other areas of the vehicles, while we should also see typical mid-cycle updates like new color options, new wheels etc.
On the other hand, the mechanical aspect of the vehicle will remain the same. This SUV rides on the company’s new CLAR platform and offers pretty impressive ride quality. The steering is excellent, as well as the overall handling. At this same time, the suspension setup isn’t too stiff, unless you pick performance-oriented, M-badged models.
Interior
BMW isn’t a company that’s known for bigger interior changes during a production cycle. Therefore, we expect that most of the cabin is about to remain the same. That’s not a bad thing at all, considering that this crossover features a well-built interior, characterized by a nice combination of conservative aesthetics and nice materials. Still, we could see a few revisions on the center stack, including a new, bigger infotainment screen. The current model uses a 12.3-inch unit.
The overall cabin layout will certainly remain the same. You may count on the same amount of space, which is quite generous in the first two rows. On the other hand, the optional third row is cramped and not particularly functional. The driving position is excellent.
When it comes to the cargo area, you may count on about 33.9 cubic feet of cargo space behind its second-row seats and 72.3 cubic feet. Those are some of the highest ratings in the segment, but still way below class rivals such as Volvo XC90.
Features
We believe that this update could also bring novelties regarding new standard and available features. Still, we don’t believe that too many things could change, considering that the current model already offers a lot. It comes standard with goodies like a 12.3-inch touch screen, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, five USB ports, HD Radio, satellite radio, and a 10-speaker stereo, as well as with ambient interior lighting, moonroof, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry etc.
As we already mentioned, we could see a bigger infotainment screen in the 2023 X5. Other potential additions are currently on the list of options, which is quite long. Some of the highlights are goodies like 16- and 20-speaker sound systems, a Wi-Fi hot spot, wireless device charging, a built-in dashcam, hand gesture recognition, quad-zone climate control, etc.
2023 BMW X5 Engines
We don’t expect bigger changes under the hood for the next year. So, the base 2023 BMW X5 should continue with a well-known 335-hp inline-six, which runs incredibly smooth and has enough power to satisfy most drivers. For more ambitious drivers, there is a 4.4-liter V8, which features a max output of 523 horsepower in the M50i model. The 2023 BMW X5 M will use the same engine, tuned up to 600 horsepower. Finally, there is the M Competition model, with 617 horsepower. All engines come in pair with excellent 8-speed ZF transmission.
The X5 is also available in a hybrid version. The system is based on an inline-six engine and delivers a total output of 389 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. This version is also pretty quick, as it needs just 5.6 seconds to hit sixty.
2023 BMW X5 Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2023 BMW X5 will hit the market sometime in the second half of 2022. The starting price should go around 60.000 dollars. Models like Mercedes-Benz GLE and Audi Q7 are key rivals, as well as the class-leading Lexus RX.
