2022 Toyota Sequoia Redesign, Release date, Interior, Hybrid, Colors

Ask anyone and you will get the same answer – the current generation of this huge SUV has been around for so long that it’s hard even to remember when the last time it received a full redesign. Therefore, it’s not hard to make a conclusion that the current generation desperately needs a full overhaul. At this point, it looks like the Japanese manufacturer isn’t in a big rush. The new Tundra is a top priority and only after Toyota engineers finish with this truck, SUV siblings will get their turn. This clearly indicates that we will have to wait for a little bit more to see a completely new model and that the 2022 Toyota Sequoia will come without more important changes.

So, what you’re going to get from the next year’s model is a familiar design, which looks outdated in so many aspects but still has a couple of good things to offer, such as a very spacious cabin, strong engine and, of course, excellent reliability rating. We expect it will go on sale in the last quarter of 2021.

2022 Toyota Sequoia front view

2022 Toyota Sequoia Redesign

The current generation of this SUV has been around for about 13 years and with such a long lifespan, there is really no secret to be unveiled. The overall design hasn’t changed too much since the initial launch, especially in terms of mechanics. The last time we saw bigger changes was in  2017 when this model received a facelift. It came with the new front end, which made it look slightly fresher.

Since then, new year models were mostly about new features and packages. For this year, we saw a new package called Nightshade Edition, so the 2022 Toyota Sequoia might come with something similar. At this point, the officials are still quiet.

Interior

Unlike the styling, which did receive some updates during the production cycle, the inside of the SUV remained largely unchanged. So, it’s no wonder that most people find this cabin look really archaic. The dashboard aesthetics are too old by any standard, which Toyota didn’t actually bother with bringing finer materials to the table eighter. This is certainly the worst-looking cabin in the class.

Still, if you don’t care too much about the dashboard design, this might be an excellent cabin for you. It offers a tremendous amount of space, whether it’s about passengers or cargo. All three rows offer plenty of legroom, providing enough space for eight adult passengers. The driver’s seat is high, which is highly beneficial in terms of visibility, as this SUV isn’t easy to maneuver it.

Even today, 13 years after the launch, the Sequoia offers some of the highest ratings in the class, when it comes to cargo volume. In numbers, it goes around 19 cubic feet of space behind the third row, 66.6 behind the second and 120.1 cubic feet of the total cargo volume.

Features

This could easily be the final production year of the current generation. So, it’s very likely that the 2022 Toyota Sequoia won’t come with any bigger changes in terms of standard and optional features. The list of standard equipment currently includes goodies like tri-zone climate control, keyless entry, moonroof, a 7-inch touch screen, a Wi-Fi hot spot, Amazon Alexa, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, HD Radio, an eight-speaker stereo, three USB ports, and Bluetooth. Among options, you can find navigation, a stereo with 12 or 14 speakers, and a rear-seat entertainment system with a 9-inch display.

In terms of safety, you may count on things like a rearview camera, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control.

2022 Toyota Sequoia Engine

Of course, we will see a well-known 5.7-liter V8 under the hood once again. Yes, it’s really thirsty but if you can live with that, this is still a pretty amazing engine. It delivers around 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque, which is plenty enough for any situation. Despite the age, the engine is really quiet and feels very refined. It comes in pair with a good-old 6-speed automatic transmission. It may lack gears compared to younger rivals, but this gearbox is smooth and shifts on time.

As we already mentioned, fuel economy is bad, really bad. You may count on 13 mpg in the city and 17 mpg on the highway. Those are the lowest ratings in the class. When properly equipped, this SUV can tow about 7.500 pounds.

2022 Toyota Sequoia Release Date and Price

This SUV is finally getting near to the end of its production cycle. Therefore, we don’t expect any increase in price. Moreover, the 2022 Toyota Sequoia could even cost less than the current model, which starts at around 51.000 dollars. As we already mentioned, it should hit the market sometime late in the year. Key competitors are models like Chevy Tahoe, Ford Expedition, Nissan Armada etc.
