2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness edition, Changes, Release date, Hybrid

The legendary crossover/wagon is about to receive a couple of very interesting novelties for the next year, reports say. The test mule of a new, performance-oriented version has been around for a while. Despite the camouflage, it shows some of the upgrades, such as new styling details, upgraded suspension setup etc. However, our reliable sources suggest that this particular version won’t be the only big thing on the 2022 Subaru Outback. It looks like we could see changes on standard models as well, a typical mid-cycle facelift.

This facelift would come a year earlier than usual, but it definitely sounds quite likely, considering that the test mule of the Wilderness Edition does feature a slightly revised front end, so we may see it on base models as well. At this point, the officials are still quiet. So, we will have to wait for some more time to get the full info about the next year’s model. When it comes to the launch date, we expect it will be scheduled for the second half of the year.

2022 Subaru Outback Facelift

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2022 Subaru Outback may receive a facelift. The new Wilderness Edition is on the way and besides new styling details and off-road hardware, it also shows a slightly revised front end. It includes a new, more prominent radiator grille, along with slightly sleeker headlights. We presume that this facelift would also include a couple of revisions in terms of bumpers, wheels, color options etc.

Speaking of the new Wilderness Edition, this will be a new version of the legendary crossover. It will come with several upgrades and the first thing you’ll probably notice is an upgraded styling, which includes more aggressive bumpers, new wheels etc. The test mule clearly shows a notably higher ground clearance. So, we may expect a more serious off-road hardware as well.

On the other side, we doubt that the 2022 Subaru Outback will feature more important updates on the inside. Subaru is usually very subtle with interior changes during production cycles, so this model shouldn’t be an exception. After all, the current version features a pretty nice cabin, so there is no need for bigger modifications. The overall build quality is great, while we also like dashboard aesthetics. Furthermore, the cabin is spacious and practical.

In terms of passenger space, you may count on two quite roomy rows of seats, which accommodate adults with ease. Also, the driving position is high and ensures pretty good visibility in all directions. When it comes to the cargo area, you may count on about 32.5 cubic feet of space behind the second-row seats and 75.7 cubic feet of the total cargo volume. That is a pretty impressive rating for the segment. For comparison, the base Subaru Forester is good for about 31.1 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row and 76.1 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down.

Of course, a couple of additions to the list of standard equipment may come as well, but we doubt that too many changes will happen, considering that the current model already stands pretty well in this aspect. Still, this doesn’t mean that there is no room for an upgraded audio system or more USB ports on the list of standard equipment. Other than that, things will probably remain the same, so you may expect to see familiar things, such as a couple of 7-inch screens, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, satellite radio, Bluetooth etc. The list of options will include goodies like navigation, wireless charging, 11.6-inch touch screen, two rear USB ports, premium stereo etc.

When it comes to safety features, the current model comes standard with a rearview camera, a rear-seat reminder, a seat belt warning light and chime for rear-seat-passengers, steering-responsive automatic LED high-beam headlights, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, forward automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and lane keep assist. The current list of options includes things like blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, reverse automatic emergency braking, driver distraction monitoring, and a front-view camera.

2022 Subaru Outback Engines

Changes under the hood are not expected. The 2022 Subaru Outback will continue with a familiar 2.5-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine. It puts out around 182 horsepower, which seems more than okay for daily commuting. Of course, more ambitious drivers can pick an optional 2.4-liter turbo-four, which delivers around 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque.

Both engines come in pair with a CVT transmission, while Subaru’s famous AWD system is standard. The base engine returns around 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway, while the turbo-four is slightly thirstier.

2022 Subaru Outback Release Date and Price

At this point, the best we can say is that the 2022 Subaru Outback should hit the market in the second half of the year. Details about a more precise launch date should come later. When it comes to the price, base models should go around 27.500 dollars.
