After the last year’s launch of the all-new Cadillac Escalade, it was pretty much expected to see an answer from the arch rival. It is coming in the form of 2022 Lincoln Navigator, which is about to bring a number of pretty interesting novelties. This will be a so-called facelift, a mid-cycle update that will bring changes in various aspects. Of course, styling is the first thing that comes to mind, but we are about to see much more than that.
The next year’s model will also come with nice interior changes, mainly in the form of the new infotainment screen. Also, some sources suggest we could see a new powertrain option in the offer as well. Unfortunately, it certainly won’t be a V8. Instead, we could rather see a hybrid version.
If we consider all the updates, it seems natural to expect to see the 2022 Lincoln Navigator a little bit earlier than usual, probably by the end of summer.
2022 Lincoln Navigator Redesign
As we already mentioned, this will be a typical facelift, an update that will help Navigator to remain fresh and competitive for a few more years. Therefore, we are about to see a number of interesting updates, starting from those in terms of exterior. The testing model wears a bit of camouflage, so we can see the areas that are about to get changes. Of course, most of the novelties will come at the front, but a few tweaks on the other end are expected as well.
On the other hand, the overall layout will remain the same. We will see the same overall shape, as well as the same mechanics. We don’t expect to see changes in terms of the suspension setup, considering that the current model already comes standard with independent rear suspension and offers pretty impressive ride quality.
Interior
Changes on the inside are about to come too. From what we know so far, the main update will be a new infotainment screen. From what we can see, it will be huge, though we can’t say the exact size. On the other hand, we know for sure that it won’t be vertically oriented, like in the case of the new Expedition.
Other than the new infotainment screen, most of the things are about to remain the same. The center console and the whole dashboard look pretty familiar, though we won’t exclude the possibility to see some new color schemes in the offer, as well as some new materials.
Of course, the overall cabin layout will remain the same, which means we may count on the same amount of space, which is pretty amazing. This SUV is generous with passenger space in all three rows, while the cargo area also offers some pretty impressive numbers. The stretched version offers even more.
2022 Lincoln Navigator Engine
Things under the hood won’t change, at least when it comes to the base model. The 2022 Lincoln Navigator will continue to use a familiar 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, the same one that can be found in the Ford F-150 Raptor. It delivers around 450 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque, which is more than enough to provide excellent performance. The engine comes in pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission, which also does a pretty good job.
Base models feature rear-wheel drive, while models will AWD layout are also available. Of course, RWD models offer slightly better fuel economy, which goes around 16 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway.
A properly equipped Navigator can tow up to 8.700 pounds, which is one of the best ratings in the class.
Navigator Hybrid
One of the possible novelties for the 2022 Lincoln Navigator is the addition of a hybrid version. If we can trust the latest reports, the next year’s model could come with the same hybrid powertrain that debuted with the new F-150. That would mean a setup that is based on a familiar 3.5-liter V6 engine, which gets significant help from the electric motor. The total output goes around 430, while the max output goes all-away up to 570 pound-feet of torque.
The system uses the same 10-speed automatic transmission and besides good performance, we also expect slightly better ratings in terms of fuel economy. At this point, we won’t estimate the numbers.
2022 Lincoln Navigator Release Date and Price
We are still waiting to hear the exact date from the officials but if we can trust unofficial reports, the updated 2022 Lincoln Navigator could arrive already by the end of summer. We don’t expect significant changes in price, at least when it comes to base models. The current 2021 model starts at around 77.000 dollars.
When it comes to the competition, the Escalade is the first name that comes to mind. However, keep in mind that the Jeep Grand Wagoneer is coming back after a long hiatus. Also, the latest reports suggest that the Lexus LX will finally get a full redesign in the next year or two.
