The new generation of the legendary luxury SUV has just arrived and after all the goodies and improvements that we saw, it would be quite expected to see the 2022 Cadillac Escalade without more important changes. However, it looks like GM has different plans for the second production year. It looks like we are about to see a hi-performance version, equipped with a more powerful engine and several more upgrades. We are still waiting to hears something from the officials on this matter.
On the other side, standard models will continue in the same way. You may count on design characteristics that were introduced with the last year’s redesign, which made this SUV one of the best models in the segment. It offers plenty of luxury, a smooth and comfortable ride, plenty of interior space and capable powertrain options. Despite the potential novelties, we don’t expect that the 2022 Cadillac Escalade will hit the market much earlier than usual.
2022 Cadillac Escalade Could Get Hi-Performance Version
As we’ve just mentioned, this would probably be the biggest novelty for the 2022 Cadillac Escalade. At this point, the most powerful version of the SUV is good for about 420 horsepower. While that’s plenty of power for sure, German rivals offer their well-known AMG and M version with 600+ horsepower. Therefore, we might see the same approach from Caddy. Originally, rumors were suggesting the company’s new 4.2-liter twin-turbo V8. However, as this engine is handcrafted, it would make this SUV cost a real fortune. Therefore, we might see a little bit different approach.
The latest reports suggest an upgraded version of the current V8. Allegedly, it would get supercharged and the max output would go all-away up to 625 horsepower. Besides the engine upgrade, we would expect to see modifications in other aspects as well. The new suspension setup, brakes and upgraded chassis are some of the things that come to mind. Of course, we would expect to see exclusive styling details as well.
2022 Cadillac Escalade Engine
Other than the new supercharged V8, the engine lineup would remain the same. This means a couple of familiar units, where base models would rely on a good old 6.2-liter V8, which puts out around 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. The engine moves this 6000-pound SUV confidently and feels like a perfect match for it. Still, the fuel economy could be better. It goes around 15 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway.
Fortunately, those who care more about fuel economy can now opt for a 277-hp diesel version. This 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 also moves the SUV with ease, despite the lack of power, thanks to a massive 460 pound-feet of torque.
Both engines come in pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission, which works very well.
Design
Considering that we are talking about the second production year, it’s pretty much for sure that no bigger changes will come for the 2022 Cadillac Escalade. We are about to see the same design that was introduced last year, which has brought completely new mechanics and aesthetics. Compared to the previous generation, the new model looks and rides way better and it is also notably more luxurious.
That improvement in luxury is easiest to be noticed on the inside. The new cabin looks really amazing. Materials are top-notch quality, while the huge amount of tech goodies makes the cabin look even more opulent. Of course, the three massive screens are still the biggest highlight of the cabin.
All three rows are very generous with space and accommodate adults with ease. The cargo area is the biggest in the class. You may count on about 25.5 cubic feet behind the third row, 73 behind the second and 121 cubic feet of the total cargo volume.
Features
We expect that most of the things are about to remain the same as in the current model, which already comes with a pretty impressive list of features. All models come standard with things like tri-zone climate control, keyless entry, auto-dimming rearview mirror, a 16.9-inch touch screen, a 7.2-inch digital control panel, a 14.2-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto, wireless Apple CarPlay, a 19-speaker AKG Studio stereo, wireless device charging, Bluetooth, two USB ports, navigation, a Wi-Fi hot spot, satellite radio, and HD Radio.
Additionally, you can get things like a panoramic sunroof, a center console refrigerator, a 36-speaker AKG Studio Reference surround-sound stereo and a rear-seat entertainment system with two 12.6-inch touch screens.
2022 Cadillac Escalade Release Date and Price
Despite the potential introduction of a hi-performance version, we are pretty sure that the 2022 Cadillac Escalade will hit the market sometime late in the year. The starting price should also remain pretty much as for the current model, which starts at around 77.000 dollars. Of course, Lincoln Navigator is the key rival, while other competitors are models like Mercedes-Benz GLS, BMW X7 etc.
