The 2022 Cadillac XT4 will represent the fourth production year, so it’s no wonder that GM’s initial plan was to make a significant mid-cycle refresh for the next year. However, that won’t happen and the next year’s model will carry on with the same design. Like many other projects in the company, this one was also delayed and the latest reports suggest that the update will happen with the 2023 model year.
This means that you may count on familiar design characteristics. What we like about this model is a stylish exterior design, while the inside looks even better. Furthermore, we like the seats, as well as the overall amount of passenger and cargo room. Also, the list of standard features is pretty long. However, there are also few notable drawbacks, such as noisy engines, dull handling and some interior materials that aren’t as nice as you would expect from a vehicle at this price range.
Considering that there are no significant changes to come, we expect that the 2022 Cadillac XT4 will hit the market sometime late in the year.
2022 Cadillac XT4 Redesign
As we’ve just mentioned, the mid-cycle refresh has been delayed, which clearly indicates that the 2022 Cadillac XT4 will come without more important changes. We are about to see a familiar layout, based on the well-known E2 platform. This means that you get an FWD layout, while the suspension and chassis are calibrated in such a way that the ride is mostly about comfort. As a result, handling isn’t particularly engaging.
Styling changes won’t happen either. The current model already looks nice, even though it doesn’t follow the brand’s very latest design language. So, we are sure that this facelift delay won’t cause any bigger problem. Also, we wouldn’t exclude the possibility to see a couple of minor updates for the next year, such as new exterior colors.
The inside of this crossover won’t change either. You may count on the same design, which is a kind of mixed bag. On one side, the dashboard looks really stylish. However, the overall quality, although good, could be better. There are few areas with low-rent materials, which make this model look less upscale compared to models like BMW X1, Mercedes GLA etc.
On the other side, more than 109 inches in wheelbase is pretty impressive for a subcompact crossover, so it’s no wonder that the amount of passenger space is probably class-leading. Also, we like the front seats, which are massive and supportive, which the visibility is good in all directions. When it comes to the cargo area, you may count on 22.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, which is impressive for the class. The overall capacity goes slightly under 49 cubic feet, which is also decent for the class.
We don’t expect any bigger change in terms of standard and available features for the next year. Most of the things will remain the same as in the current model, which already stands pretty good in this aspect. All models come standard with things like dual-zone climate control, remote start, an 8-inch touch screen, a seven-speaker stereo, satellite radio, Bluetooth, USB ports, a Wi-Fi hot spot, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Additionally, you can get upgrades like a sunroof, a rear-seat entertainment system, wireless device charging, a 13-speaker Bose audio system, and navigation.
The same thing is with safety features. The current model comes standard with a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, forward collision warning, forward automatic emergency braking, and front pedestrian braking. The list of options includes a head-up display, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, a rear camera mirror, rear cross traffic alert, rear pedestrian detection, reverse automatic emergency braking, front and rear parking sensors etc.
2022 Cadillac XT4 Engine
The 2022 Cadillac XT4 will continue with a familiar 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 237 horsepower. That’s enough for decent performance, which is far from slow but still not particularly great. The engine comes in pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission, which does a decent job as well. AWD models are also available.
When it comes to fuel economy, you may count on typical ratings for the class. Standard models are good for about 24 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. Of course, versions with all-wheel drive are slightly thirstier.
2022 Cadillac XT4 Release Date and Price
We presume that the 2022 Cadillac XT4 will hit the market sometime late in the year. Also, the price should remain pretty much the same as for the current model, which starts at around 37.000 dollars. The competition in the segment is pretty hard. Some of the key players are models like BMW X1, Audi Q3, Lexus UX etc.
