One of the world’s first three-row SUVs has been around for more than 20 years and the new generation has just arrived. Of course, it has brought various improvements and pretty much everyone agrees that the new MDX is once again one of the best value cars in the segment of mid-size luxury SUVs. However, that’s not the only thing the recent redesign has brought. There is also a new, high-performance version of the SUV, with the Type S moniker. That model arrives as the 2023 Acura MDX Type S and brings all kinds of upgrades.

Speaking of the upgrades, this version will have many of them, starting from the turbocharged V6 engine. Furthermore, the chassis and suspension have been tuned, as well as the transmission. There are many more mechanical upgrades that improve the overall performance, while there is also an upgraded styling that emphasizes the model’s high-performance character.

2023 Acura MDX Type S Design

Of course, the 2023 Acura MDX Type S is based on the recently redesigned standard MDX. So, you may on all the benefits that came with this overhaul, starting from the new styling, more interior space etc. Still, this particular version also brings a variety of extra features. For example, you may count on an adaptive air suspension, specially tuned to deliver excellent performance. Furthermore, you may count on massive Brembo brakes at the front, which features the same brake-by-wire system as the NSX supercar.

Naturally, there is also a full load of styling upgrades that accentuate the model’s performance character. You can notice a blacked grille, along with the blacked trim around the vehicle, as well as the new set of wheels. All these things make the MDX Type S look amazing, more aggressive and more appealing than the standard version.

Interior

On the inside, you can find a couple of exclusive details as well, starting from the unique stitching, exclusive color schemes and materials. Also, you can get a couple of exclusive features, including massaging seats and a premium 25-speaker audio system, which is probably the best sound system in this price range on the market.

On the other hand, the overall layout remains the same, so we are still talking about a spacious and practical SUV, which accommodates up to seven passengers. Of course, the third row of seats is typically tight for a mid-size SUV, but gives an additional dose of flexibility for sure. The cargo area offers around 16.3 cubic feet of room behind the third-row seats, 39.1 cubic feet with the third-row seats folded down, and 71.4 cubic feet of the total cargo volume, which is great for this class of vehicles.

Features

As a flagship model in the lineup, the MDX Type S comes with a full load of standard equipment, obviously. Some of the highlights are goodies like a 12.3-inch display, a touchpad controller, a nine-speaker stereo, satellite radio, HD Radio, USB ports, Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hot spot, wireless device charging, Amazon Alexa, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, navigation, a moonroof and tri-zone automatic climate control. Furthermore, you can also opt for the Advance package, which adds massaging seats and the aforementioned 25-speaker ELS sound system.

2023 Acura MDX Type S Engine

This is the biggest upgrade over the base model. This version comes with a capable 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine, which puts out around 355 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. The engine comes coupled with a 10-speed automatic transmission, as well as with the company’s well-known Super-Handling All-Wheel-Drive system (SH-AWD), which works great. It allows 70% of the power to be sent to the rear axle, where all of that power can be vectored to either wheel.

Such a setup ensures great performance, with excellent grip and strong acceleration. When it comes to fuel economy, you may count on about 17 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway. The max towing capacity is 5.000 pounds.

2023 Acura MDX Type S Release Date and Price

The 2023 Acura MDX Type S is already available in many parts of the United States, with a starting price of around 68.000 dollars. Versions with the Advance package cost around 73.000 dollars.
