The current generation of Subaru’s famous compact SUV is entering its fourth production year and lovers of this carmaker know very well that it’s time for a mid-cycle refresh. Therefore, the 2022 Subaru Forester is coming with a lot of new things, particularly in terms of styling. We are about to see a completely new front end, while other areas will come with novelties as well. On the other hand, the interior will remain pretty much the same, just like the powertrain. On the other hand, we expect to see a few additions to the list of standard equipment.
The novelties will make this SUV look more appealing. On the other hand, the overall layout will remain the same. You may count on a spacious and practical vehicle, which features good interior quality, standard AWD and pretty good mpg ratings. Furthermore, we also like its comfortable ride very much.
The 2022 Subaru Forester will arrive later in the year.
2022 Subaru Forester Redesign
As we’ve just mentioned, this is a typical mid-cycle refresh. The focus is on aesthetics, so it’s no wonder that the 2022 Subaru Forester is coming with a completely new front end. The biggest change is new highlights, which look much bolder than before. The grille has been revised too, while the front bumper looks sharper and more aggressive. Visual changes are coming to other parts of the vehicle as well. Of course, there are typical updates like new wheels and color options, while the rear end remains largely the same. Speaking of the colors, you may count on three new finishes – Cascade Green Silica, Autumn Green, and Brilliant Bronze.
On the other hand, the mechanical aspect of the vehicle will remain pretty much unchanged, which definitely isn’t a bad thing. We particularly like the suspension setup, which offers a perfect balance between comfort and agility. The ride is very soft, but the steering is also very precise. There is a bit of body roll in corners, but nothing significant.
On the inside, not many things will change. From what we know so far, the biggest novelty will be the introduction of a new waterproof polyurethane seat upholstery, which will be offered as an option. On the other hand, the dashboard design will remain the same. It is relatively simple and straightforward but attractive at the same time. The materials are pretty nice, while the build quality is at a pretty high level.
Besides the attractive look, this cabin is also characterized by plenty of space for passengers and cargo. Both rows offer plenty of room for adults. The front seats are particularly comfortable, while we particularly like a pretty high driving position, which ensures very good visibility in all directions.
Cargo volume is another big strength of this crossover. You may count on about 31.1 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and 76.1 cubic feet in total. Those are some of the highest ratings in the segment.
When it comes to features, the biggest novelty is an updated EyeSight suite of advanced driver aids. According to Subaru, the camera sensors and other elements have been significantly improved and now operate in a much wider range. Speaking of the safety features, it’s great to know that all models will come standard with goodies like adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, automatic emergency braking etc.
The list of standard tech goodies will be pretty long as well. Base models will come with a smaller 6.5-inch touchscreen, which comes with all kinds of connectivity features, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Also, you may count Bluetooth, USB ports in both rows and many other goodies. In higher trim levels, you can get a bigger 8-inch touchscreen, along with navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot and many other things.
2022 Subaru Forester Engine
On the other side, things under the hood will remain the same. The 2022 Subaru Forester will continue with the same 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated Boxer engine, which puts out 182 horsepower. It comes in pair with a CVT gearbox, which isn’t particularly fun to drive but brings big benefits in terms of fuel economy. You may count on about 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway, which is impressive if we consider the standard all-wheel drive.
With 8.7 inches of ground clearance and things like hill descent control and selectable traction modes, the Forester is also a decent off-roader. On the other hand, the max towing is 1.500 pounds, which isn’t impressive at all.
2022 Subaru Forester Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2022 Subaru Forester will hit the market this fall. The starting price should go around 26.000 dollars, while key competitors will be models like Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5 etc.
