The new generation of the legendary SUV is here. A completely new, long-wheelbase version debuted first and we are now waiting to see how the standard two-row model will look like. What’s particularly interesting about the standard model (also called short-wheelbase Grand Cherokee), is that this version will come in a couple of pretty exclusive variants. Of course, we are talking about performance models, which probably won’t be available in the long-wheelbase. We are particularly talking about performance models, such as the well-known SRT. The next generation of this model will come as the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT and we have big expectations from it.

At this point, we don’t know the details about this model but we may presume it will come with similar kinds of upgrades that were characterizing the previous model. In practice, this means a large HEMI engine under the hood and a lot of mechanical upgrades, including new suspension, brakes etc. Of course, a couple of exclusive styling details should come as well.

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT will hit the market next fall.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Redesign

As we already mentioned, the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT will be based on the short-wheelbase version of the Grand Cherokee, which will come completely new for the next model’s years. Compared to the previous model, it will be slightly longer. The wheelbase will go up from 114.8 to 116.5 inches, which should provide more room on the inside.

What’s more important about this redesign is that the new model is getting a new platform. It is an architecture that comes from Alfa Romeo, better known as Giorgio. Compared to the previous generation, the new one is expected to be notably lighter, which in practice means better efficiency and performance. We have big expectations from the new model, especially in terms of handling.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Features

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT will be particularly interesting in terms of exclusive features. At this point, we still don’t know the details, but we presume that the overall approach won’t be much different compared to the previous model. So, the first thing that comes to mind is the suspension setup, which should be notably stiffer and reduce body roll. Furthermore, we count on bigger brakes, as well as on things like limited slip rear differential, lower-profile tires and similar things.

Naturally, we also expect to see visual details that accentuate the model’s performance character. We count on things like bigger wheels, upgraded fascia, exclusive color options and similar things. Of course, we will also see a couple of “SRT” badges around the vehicle.

Interior

Of course, we also count on a number of exclusive interior features. Some of the first things that come to mind are materials. We presume that some of the fancy surfaces will be replaced with materials that are more appropriate to performance-oriented models. In other words, we count on surfaces covered with carbon fiber, aluminum, Alcantara etc. The previous generation featured a sporty steering wheel as well, so we may expect something similar in the new model as well.

On the other side, the overall layout will be pretty much the same as in other models. The dashboard will look pretty much the same as in the Grand Cherokee L, which means a pretty upscale approach. On the other side, this is still a short-wheelbase version, which means two rows of seats. Of course, both of them will be very spacious enough to accommodate adults with ease. The cargo area should offer some pretty respectable numbers as well.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Engine

This aspect probably won’t bring changes when we compare it with the previous generation. So, the well-known 6.4-liter HEMI V8 will remain the core of this capable SUV. It delivers around 475 horsepower, which should be enough for the 0-60 spring in a little bit more than four seconds. Of course, the Trackhawk will be faster, but we find this version far more versatile. It has more than enough power to satisfy everyone. Also, keep in mind that we are talking about a naturally-aspirated engine, so you may count on the best possible sound note as well.

The engine will come in pair with a super-smooth, ZF-sourced 8-speed automatic transmission, which does a fantastic job.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Release Date and Price

We presume that the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT will be ready for the market this fall, along with other models in the lineup. When it comes to the price, the base model should go around 70.000 dollars. When it comes to the possible competition, we presume that some of the key rivals will be more potent versions of Ford Explorer and Ford Edge, as well as premium players like BMW X5 M50i, Mercedes-AMG GLE 580 etc.
