We all remember the legendary FX very well, as well as the QX70 nameplate, which came a little bit later. Infiniti had a coupe crossover way before any other manufacturer and now, when these body styles are really popular, there’s a chance to see its comeback. According to the latest reports, that could happen already in the next year, with the 2022 Infiniti QX70.
At this point, this story about comeback is based on rumors. The officials are still quiet, so you should take the following paragraphs with a big reserve. Still, a big reason why many believe in this model is the fact that the demand for such vehicles is bigger than ever. Also, the all-new QX60 is about to debut next year, so many see its coupe counterpart as a natural thing. If the new model happens, it could hit the market already in the next year.
2022 Infiniti QX70 Redesign
When it comes to base design characteristics, we have no doubt that the new 2022 Infiniti QX70 will stick to its tradition. So, what we would expect to see is a mid-size coupe crossover, with a design that puts focus on style, instead of practicality.
If you’re familiar with previous generations of this crossover, you know very well that they feature an RWD layout. In the case of 2022 Infiniti QX70, that would mean utilization of a good-old FM platform, which may seem a little bit outdated by today’s standards. So, the thing that comes to our mind is a close relationship with the new QX60. That would mean riding on a D platform, with an FWD layout, though we have no doubt that the AWD model would be in the offer too. How would this affect the overall appeal? It’s hard to say at this point.
Of course, the first thing about this model that comes to mind is the overall shape. We have no doubt that the 2022 Infiniti QX70 would follow the path of its predecessor and that it would come in an attractive coupe crossover layout, with the recognizable sloping roofline at the rear end.
When it comes to the overall design language, we have no doubt that the Japanese manufacturer would implement the latest design philosophy, something pretty similar to the QX60 Monograph concept. Practically, we expect it to feature the same front end as the more conventional family hauler, especially in terms of headlights, grille, bumper etc. Still, we wouldn’t be surprised if we see a little bit longer hood, which would accentuate the model’s sporty character. Naturally, the biggest difference would be at the rear end, where we would see that sloping roof, along with modifications on taillights, tailgate etc.
We presume that the dashboard would look pretty similar to the QX60’s one. In the past, we didn’t like Infiniti’s interiors too much, as there was too much plastic around the cabin. Fortunately, this will change soon, as the new cabin looks really nice. Materials are far better, while we also like the build quality and dashboard aesthetics. Of course, there is also a full load of tech features, including things like the digital instrument cluster, large infotainment screen etc.
On the other side, the 2022 Infiniti QX70 would be significantly less practical, due to its body style. We would see a layout that includes just two rows of seats and while the amount of legroom would be great in both rows, we presume that the second row would be slightly compromised in terms of headroom. Due to the sloping roof, taller passengers may struggle in this area. For the same reason, the cargo area wouldn’t be too large.
2022 Infiniti QX70 Engines
When it comes to the powertrain, we presume that the 2022 Infiniti QX70 will be relying on a good-old 3.5-liter V6, which puts out around 295 horsepower. That’s enough power to provide solid driving dynamics, as well as respectable numbers in terms of towing capacity. This engine isn’t a new thing at all but what’s new is the transmission. Instead of CVT, the new generation of Infiniti’s mid-size crossovers will use a 9-speed automatic transmission, which provides a significantly better driving experience.
We presume that some more capable optional powertrain could happen as well. Although it’s early to talk about details, we believe that could easily be an electrified version, a powertrain that would be based on Nissan’s new e-Power hybrid systems, which combines gasoline and electric motors, but rides like a genuine electric car.
2022 Infiniti QX70 Release Date and Price
The 2022 Infiniti QX70 is just a rumor for now, so it’s hard to talk about any more precise date. Still, some rumors suggest we could see this model already in the next year. If it comes, we presume that the starting price would go somewhere around 50.000 dollars.
