It’s no secret that Nissan’s luxury division is in crisis. Sales numbers are going down on a daily basis and the brand definitely needs a new model that can make all this right. Many believe that this role could be played by the upcoming 2022 Infiniti QX60. The next generation of the brand’s three-row crossover is on the way and we count on significant improvements in various aspects, which will make it a much better overall vehicle.
From what we know so far, this redesign will bring a lot of big things. Of course, the focus will be on the design, but we are also about to see big novelties in terms of the drivetrain, including new transmission, while the company claims significantly higher towing ratings too. Furthermore, we are about to see a completely new interior design, which will look more upscale and make this SUV more luxurious.
According to the latest reports the 2022 Infiniti QX60 will arrive in September.
2022 Infiniti QX60 Redesign
This redesign is about to come with a lot of novelties but there same also some things that will remain the same. Although an all-new model, it will actually use the same D platform as the outgoing model. Interestingly, even the wheelbase will remain the same, 114.2 inches. Still, that doesn’t mean that the 2022 Infiniti QX60 will be the same vehicle as its predecessor. The platform will be significantly updated and one of the first things that come to mind is a completely new suspension geometry. It will provide a significantly better driving experience.
Another aspect of the updated D platform we should mention is electrification. The new architecture will support all kinds of electrification. This means that we may expect both hybrid and all-electric versions of this three-row crossover.
As we already mentioned, the new 2022 Infiniti QX60 will keep dimensions similar to the outgoing model. The wheelbase will measure 114.2 inches, which is identical to the outgoing model. The new model will also feature the same width but will be higher. Finally, it will be slightly shorter compared to the predecessor, with around 197 inches in total length.
When it comes to the styling, the testing model still wears a camouflage. Still, we definitely can predict most of the aesthetical solutions, which will be based on the Monograph concept. Moreover, we have also seen a lot of rendering photos. So, it’s obvious that the new model will adopt the design language introduced with the Monograph concept, which includes a full load of sleek lines and design solutions. The concept also comes with huge wheels and a black roof, which brings an extra dose of attractiveness.
You can find a lot of spy shots on the network and many of them even show parts of the cabin. From what can be seen, the new 2022 Infiniti QX60 will look far more upscale from the inside. The overall interior quality was a big issue of Infiniti models in the past but it looks like things are about to change. The spy shots show a large tablet-like touchscreen, along with a massive use of nice materials. We particularly like the center console, which features nice plastics, wrapped with leather and stitchings.
Besides the obvious improvement in terms of quality, we presume that the new QX60 will continue with the same or very similar amount of passenger space. Simply, the size of the new model is very similar to its predecessor, so it’s hard to expect that things could be any different. Of course, the same thing goes for the cargo area, which already offers quite respectable numbers for the class.
2022 Infiniti QX60 Engine
Big novelties are coming under the hood, even though the engine is about to remain the same. The 2022 Infiniti QX60 will continue with a familiar 3.5-liter V6 engine, which puts out around 295 horsepower. However, the current CVT gearbox will be replaced with a classic 9-speed automatic transmission, which comes directly from ZF. This will completely change the character of the vehicle, which should be far more interesting to drive with the new setup.
We don’t expect to see any bigger changes in terms of fuel economy. On the other side, the company claims a big improvement in terms of max towing capacity, which will go up to 6.000 pounds. That’s 1.000 pounds more compare to the previous generation.
As we already mentioned, the next generation of this SUV should also come with hybrid and all-electric variants. However, these models will come a couple of years later.
2022 Infiniti QX60 Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2022 Infiniti QX60 will arrive sometime in the third quarter of the year, most likely in September. When it comes to the price, some rough estimation would be around 45.000 dollars for the base models. The competition in the segment is pretty tough. Some of the models we should mention are Acura MDX, Lexus RX, Volvo XC90, BMW X5 etc.
