2024 Land Rover Defender: Changes, Specs, Twin-Turbo V8

0

The new generation of the iconic off-roader has been around for a while and from this perspective, we can say that the British manufacturer did a fantastic job in bringing the two worlds closer than ever. We are talking about a vehicle that combines fantastic off-road performance with super-smooth on-road manners in such an amazing way that no other off-roader comes even close. Of course, the 2024 Land Rover Defender will continue in the same way, though there is a chance to see some novelties.

According to some sources, the company might introduce a new version. Allegedly, the SV version is in the works and it should come with a twin-turbo V8 engine. However, the officials are still quiet, so we can’t say if this is happening or not. The rest of the lineup should continue in the same way, without more important changes.

We expect that the 2024 Land Rover Defender will arrive sometime in the second half of 2023.

2024 Land Rover Defender SV Rumors

According to rumors, the British company is working on a high-performance version, which would come with the SV badge. Allegedly, that model would come with the BMW-sourced 4.4-liter V8 engine, which puts out around 523 horsepower, which would turn this SUV into a genuine high-performance SUV.

The problem with these rumors is that the new Defender is already available in a similar variant. That model uses a good-old 5.0-liter Supercharged V8 which may have a little bit less torque but features a pretty similar amount of power – 518 horses. That’s why the 2024 Land Rover Defender SV is under a big question.

The rest of the lineup will certainly continue in the same way. Base models will continue with a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which delivers nearly 300 horsepower. It has plenty of power to satisfy most drivers, except for hardcore off-roaders who need that extra low-end torque. For then, the optional 3.0-liter six-cylinder unit seems like a perfect choice, with a max output of 395 horsepower.

All units come with an 8-speed automatic transmission, which does a fantastic job.

2024 Land Rover Defender Design

Design-wise, the potential SV could come with a couple of upgrades, both regarding mechanics and aesthetics. However, the overall layout will remain the same, just like in the rest of the lineup. Once again, you may count on a familiar design, which resembles the previous generation a lot. Also, you can choose between familiar body styles, between models with two or four doors.

Of course, this SUV is mostly about off-roading, so there is a whole bunch of standard and available features. All models come standard with goodies like four-wheel drive, hill descent control, a two-speed transfer case, automatic wade sensing, and the Terrain Response system, which lets you choose from multiple driving modes: Grass, Gravel, Snow; Mud and Ruts; Sand; Rock Crawl; and Wade. an electronic active differential, off-road tires and All Terrain Progress Control. The list of options also includes Terrain Response 2 system automatically configures the suspension and drivetrain based on the surface you’re traversing. Finally, there is the optional adaptive air suspension, which can increase the ground clearance up to 11.6 inches.

Interior

Once again, we don’t expect to see notable changes. The next year’s Defender should continue with a cabin design that combines nice materials with rugged aesthetics. Everything looks fine, while there is also a generous amount of tech goodies.

In terms of space, the two-door model accommodates five adults pretty easily, though the cargo area is really small. You may count on no more than 15.6 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 58.3 cubic feet.

The four-door model offers more leg- and headroom in the second row, while there is also the optional third row, though it is pretty tight. The cargo area in two-row models is good for about 34 cubic feet behind the second row and 78.8 cubic feet of the total cargo space. The three-row model is good for about 10.7 cubic feet of space behind the third row, 34.6 cubic feet behind the second row and 69 of the total volume.
