By Ford’s full-size SUV has just been updated with new styling, an infotainment system and more features, which clearly indicates that the current generation is about to remain in production for a few more years. Therefore, we expect that the 2024 Ford Expedition will be a typical carryover model, which would come with the same design and minor updates only. Those updates may refer to new standard equipment but even those don’t sound very likely, despite that the competition is getting tougher.
So, we expect to see a familiar design, with familiar design and features. We are about to see an SUV that still has a lot of good things to offer, starting from the spacious seats, comfortable cabin, capable powertrain etc. The off-road-focused Timberline model should also continue with the same design and features.
As there are no significant changes to come, we presume that the 2024 Ford Expedition will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of 2023.
2024 Ford Expedition Design
As we’ve just mentioned, the 2024 Ford Expedition will be a typical carryover model, with familiar design and features. Therefore, we are about the see the same layout, which was updated just recently. The 2022 model brought new styling, with a lot of new details at the front. The new version looks more attractive, so we are pretty sure it can remain fresh and competitive for a few more years.
On the other hand, the mechanical aspect of the vehicle remained unchanged, so you may count on familiar ride quality. The Expedition is reasonably comfortable, but offers good handling as well, thanks to the independent rear suspension.
We should also mention the new Timberline trim, which brings a couple of important off-road upgrades, such as an upgraded suspension, a rear limited-slip differential, a two-speed transfer case etc.
Interior
On the inside, the recent upgrade brought a new infotainment screen, bigger and with sharper graphics. The rest of the cabin remained pretty much the same, so we expect that the 2024 Ford Expedition interior will continue in the same way. That’s not a bad thing at all, considering that the current cabin already looks pretty nice, whether it’s about aesthetics or build quality.
The cabin is also very spacious and comfortable. Of course, the first and the second row are very generous but the Expedition also offers one of the most spacious third rows in the class, which also accommodates three adult persons pretty easily.
On the other hand, the cargo area, although spacious, is smaller compared to key rivals, such as Chevy Tahoe and Jeep Wagoneer. You may count on up to 20.9 cubic feet of space behind the third row, 63.6 cubic feet behind the second row and 104.6 cubes with both rear rows folded down.
Features
Although there’s always a chance to see some novelties in this aspect, we are pretty sure that the next year’s Expedition will remain mostly the same. Therefore, base models should come standard with goodies like remote start, tri-zone climate control, a 12-inch touch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hot spot, four USB ports, and a six-speaker audio system. Among available upgrades, expect to find goodies like a 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15.5-inch touch screen, navigation, wireless device charging, HD Radio, satellite radio, a 12- or 22-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, and additional USB ports.
When it comes to safety features, base models should come standard with goodies like a rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, automatic high beams, rear parking sensors etc. Also, there are upgrades like adaptive cruise control, park assist, surround-view camera, front parking sensors, BlueCruise semi-autonomous driving system etc.
2024 Ford Expedition Engines
We count on the same powertrain, which means that base models will carry on with a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, which puts out around 380 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. The engine comes coupled with a 10-speed automatic transmission and the whole system feels pretty capable and pretty refined. The new Timberline trim comes with an upgraded version of the engine, with a max output of 440 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque.
In terms of fuel economy, you may count on about 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway, which is typical for a V6-powered full-size SUV. The Timberline returns around 15 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway.
When properly equipped, the Expedition can go up to 9.300 pounds.
2024 Ford Expedition Release Date and Price
Since there are no significant changes to come, we expect that the 2024 Ford Expedition will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of 2023. The starting price should go around 53.000 dollars.
