2024 Dodge Durango Redesign: What to Expect

0

The current generation of Dodge Durango is the oldest mid-size SUV on the market but it looks like this could change soon. Namely, we are about to see a full redesign soon, according to the latest reports. The all-new model is expected to arrive as the 2024 Dodge Durango and if we can trust rumors, it will bring bigger changes than you usually see in a redesign. It looks like Durango is coming back to its roots.

What this means is that there is a big chance to see the new generation riding on a body-on-frame platform again. In such a scenario, we would see a genuine SUV, with enhanced off-road and utility capabilities, but also with completely new mechanics, including new powertrain options. Moreover, the new generation could also grow in size and enter a full-size class.

The officials are still quiet, so make sure to take the following paragraphs with a bit of reserve.

2024 Dodge Durango Design

The current generation of this mid-size SUV has been around since 2011 and it could finally get a redesign in the next year. The current model rides on the same platform as the previous-generation Grand Cherokee and it definitely lags behind the competition, especially when it comes to ride quality. However, we have to say that it is still one of the most capable units around, with powerful engines on offer and impressive towing capacity.

If we can trust the latest reports, the next generation would ride on a body-on-frame platform. We presume it would borrow the architecture from Ram 1500, though most parts would probably be shared with Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer models. Still, the new Durango would feature a more economical design approach and compete with mainstream full-size SUVs, such as Ford Expedition and Chevy Tahoe.

Exterior

Of course, we expect the 2024 Dodge Durango to come with a completely new exterior design and one of the biggest rumors is that the new generation is about to grow in size. Allegedly, the new model won’t just feature a body-on-frame design, but also full-size dimensions. Naturally, this means that the new model would be bolder and more aggressive. We presume that some inspiration may be taken from Ram 1500, especially in terms of the front-end design.

The current model is already a pretty decent off-roader, with solid ground clearance, low-range gearing and similar stuff. However, we presume that the new model would take this aspect to the next level and that the company will probably offer an off-road-oriented model as well. That version would get an updated four-wheel drive system locking differential and many other important upgrades.

Interior

On the inside, we expect to see a modern cabin, with quality materials and nice aesthetics. Despite the updates, the current generation is more than a decade old, so its cabin doesn’t feel particularly relevant in today’s market. Therefore, we expect to see a big improvement from the new model. We count on much nicer aesthetics and considering the BoF nature, we might see a lot of inspiration taken from Ram 1500’s dashboard. That would result in a bolder, more truckish design, but also in nicer materials. Naturally, we also expect to see a full load of new tech features.

Considering that the new model is about to get bigger, we presume it would offer more interior space as well. This particularly refers to the third row, which would become more spacious and adult-friendly. Of course, the first two rows would also offer higher comfort, while we also count on more cargo space, which would feature similar figures to other models in the class.

2024 Dodge Durango Engines

When it comes to powertrain, some of the current engine options could carry on. This particularly refers to the good-old 3.6-liter V6, which would probably get a slight power increase. This engine would make the base version quite affordable. On the other hand, the destiny of the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 is still uncertain and we believe that the new model would rather come with new Hurricane engines.

This means we would probably see two variants of this 3.0-liter inline-six. The basic version would feature a max output of 420 horsepower, while the upgraded variant would be good for 510 horsepower. All engines would come in pairs with a smooth-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission.
