2023 Toyota Sequoia Redesign: Everything We Know So Far

0

If we can trust the latest reports, Toyota’s largest SUV is finally about to get a full redesign. We’ve just seen the new Tundra and many believe that now it’s time for the new generation of SUV siblings. The current generation has been around for more than 13 years, which is way too long, even for the segment of full-size SUVs. Fortunately, this is going to change soon, as the latest reports suggest the all-new model is already in the next year, with the 2023 Toyota Sequoia moniker.

At this point, the officials are still quiet about details but most of the design characteristics are relatively easy to predict. This includes the platform and most of the mechanics, while we also believe in much finer aesthetics as well. The interior will be all-new too, while the powertrain lineup should mirror the one found in the new Tundra.

We expect that the all-new model will arrive sometime in the second half of the next year.

As we’ve just mentioned, the current generation has been around since 2008. That’s why it’s not hard to conclude that the new generation is about to bring plenty of changes and significant improvements in many aspects. The all-new design will be new in so many aspects but the first thing that comes to mind is the platform.

Of course, the new 2023 Toyota Sequoia will adopt a body-on-frame version of Toyota’s new TNGA platform, which will make the new SUV way better than its predecessor. First of all, it will be lighter and more efficient, equipped with much more modern technologies. Also, you may count on the lower center of gravity, which will certainly have a highly positive impact on the overall driving experience. Finally, the new platform will bring electrification to the table, as the new generation is expected to be offered in a hybrid version as well.

Exterior

When it comes to the exterior design, we expect nothing less than significant styling changes. This means the application of the brand’s newest designed language, established by the new Tundra. We expect to see the same or very similar front end, which is characterized by an extremely bold appearance and an incredibly massive grille. Of course, the rest of the body will come in a typical SUV body layout, but we count on a bolder and more muscular appearance compared to the current model.

Big improvements are expected in terms of the suspension setup as well. We count on a more sophisticated setup, which would ensure a much finer ride quality than before. The TRD Pro version is also expected, with all kinds of mechanical and visual upgrades. More details are expected in the near future.

Interior

The interior quality is one of the weakest points of the current generation and we have no doubt that the improvement will be huge in the new model. We presume that the dashboard will be the same or similar to the one found in the new Tundra, which is highlighted by much finer materials, attractive shape, massive available 14-inch infotainment screen, digital instrument cluster and many more things. Naturally, the new model will come packed with all kinds of the latest tech goodies and advanced safety systems.

Also, we count on plenty of passenger space, which is the characteristic of the current model as well. The 2023 Toyota Sequoia should offer three spacious rows of seats, with the ability to accommodate eight adult passengers with ease. The same thing goes to the cargo area, which could be even bigger than the current one, which offers over 120 cubic feet of the total volume.

As we already mentioned, we expect that the new 2023 Toyota Sequoia will use the same powertrain options as the new Tundra. This means that the old 5.7-liter V8 will be replaced and that the new generation will be offered with two much more efficient variants. Base models will feature the company’s new turbocharged V6, which puts out 389 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. An upgrade will come in the form of a hybrid, which will add an electric motor, for a total output of 437 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque.

Another big novelty is a new 10-speed automatic transmission. When it comes to fuel economy, it is still early for the exact numbers. However, we have no doubt they will be significantly higher compared to the outgoing model, which returns no more than 13 mpg in the city and 17 mpg on the highway.

2023 Toyota Sequoia Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2023 Toyota Sequoia will hit the market sometime in the second half of 2022. Base versions should cost around 50.000 dollars. Of course, the competition remains the same – Ford Expedition, Chevy Tahoe, Nissan Armada etc.
