2023 Toyota 4Runner: Changes, Specs, and Release date

1

The current generation of Toyota’s famous off-roader has been around for more than a decade and desperately needs updates. A piece of good news is that most unofficial reports suggest this will happen already in the next year. The new model is about to come as the 2023 Toyota 4Runner, according to rumors and it will come completely redesigned, with an all-new design in every aspect. However, we are still waiting for the official confirmation, so take the following paragraphs with a bit of reserve.

In any case, the next generation will bring a lot of important novelties. One of the first things that come to mind is the platform, which will be shared with the new-generation Tundra, Sequoia etc. Other than that, we count on a completely new styling, significantly improved interior and a lot more tech goodies. Finally, we count on the new engine under the hood.

The 2023 Toyota 4Runner is expected to arrive sometime in summer 2022.

The first and most important thing to mention is that the new 2023 Toyota 4Runner will continue in the same manner, as a genuine body-on-frame SUV. It will continue as a capable off-roader, which is the segment that is growing pretty strongly these days. Even the outgoing generation is still extremely popular, so the expectations from the new model are pretty big.

So, we expect the new model to ride on Toyota’s new TNGA-F platform, the same one that is used for the new Tundra, and will be used for next-generation Sequoia and Tacoma models. One of the things that should improve significantly is the ride quality. The new model should be much better on the road, but that doesn’t mean compromises in terms of off-road performance. The new model will be as capable as the current model, if not even more.

Of course, high-performance variants like TRD Pro will be offered too, with lots of additional off-road hardware, unique styling details and similar things.

Exterior

When it comes to the exterior design,  it’s still early to talk about details. At this point, the best we can do is to rely on a couple of rendering photos that circulate on the network, which indicate that the 2023 Toyota 4Runner will adopt the brand’s new design language for the BoF vehicle, which will debut in  the new Tundra. This refers to a massive grille and bold front fascia, with uniquely shaped headlights.

The rest of the body should come in a typical SUV manner. We don’t expect significant changes regarding size, as things like a longer wheelbase or overall length would probably compromise off-road potential. Also, expect a lot of unique styling details from models like TRD Pro, which would come with unique color options, bodywork, wheels and more.

Interior

On the inside, the 2023 Toyota 4Runner will change significantly. Simply, the current model is too old and not many things have changed since the 2009 launch. The dashboard looks outdated and also utilizes mostly low-rent materials. We expect that these things are about to change. The new dashboard should look much more modern, while utilization of nicer materials are expected as well. Finally, the build quality could bring improvements, even though the current model is already pretty good in this aspect.

The 2023 Toyota 4Runner should also come packed with all kinds of new technologies, starting from a new infotainment system and a full load of advanced driver aids. When it comes to the interior space, we presume that the new model will continue as a 7-seater, but with a slightly improved passenger room in the third row. The cargo area could become bigger but not by too much.

2023 Toyota 4Runner Engine

This aspect will bring some of the biggest changes. The current model uses an old 4.0-liter V6, which would use more power but from what we know so far, it won’t leave room for anything bigger. Instead, the Japanese manufacturer will offer a smaller, turbo-four engine, which will be able to meet the high emission standards we are witnessing these days.

The exact details about the engine are still unavailable. However, we presume that the engine would be tunned to offer around 300 or more horsepower. Also, we have no doubt that the current 5-speed automatic will be replaced with a new 8- or 10-speed unit.

Some sources also speculate about the possible hybrid version. Such an option also sounds possible in our ears, though we will have to wait for the officials to hear something on this matter.

2023 Toyota 4Runner Release Date and Price

The 2023 Toyota 4Runner could arrive already next summer, though the officials are still quiet. We presume that the price won’t change significantly, so base versions will probably go slightly under 40.000 dollars.

  1. How about WIRELESS android auto and WIRELESS apple carplay across the board? the 10 inch screens and 14 inch screens you find in the tundra and the lexus NX find their way into respective dashboards to keep the Koreans in their place. Why develope this great new entertainment system and not put it , even as an upscale option in other vehicles. ??
