By The automotive world is changing, so fast that even conservative manufacturers like Subaru are forced to play by new rules of the market. This particularly refers to electrification and from what we know so far, the Japanese manufacturer is preparing its first all-electric crossover, which will come as the 2023 Subaru Solterra. The new model will be co-developed with Toyota and it should have a lot of things in common with the BZ4X concept.
This particularly refers to base design characteristics. The two models will ride on the same platform and feature pretty similar dimensions. Furthermore, the drivetrain will probably also be the same or similar, though there is always room for exclusive styling solutions and features. Also, Subaru released an interior render, which shows a pretty upscale design.
When it comes to the 2023 Subaru Solterra release date, we believe that the new model will be ready for the second half of the next year.
2023 Subaru Solterra Design
When it comes to base design characteristics, the first thing that comes to mind is the overall design. As we’ve just mentioned, most of the design characteristics will be shared with the BZ4X concept. The two models will feature the same overall shape and size. Of course, the 2023 Subaru Solterra will feature a couple of unique styling solutions, but the overall silhouette shouldn’t be significantly different.
When it comes to the platform, we know it will be co-developed. Toyota will probably take care of the battery and electric motors, while Subaru probably works on the all-wheel-drive system. From what we know so far, all-wheel drive will be standard, in a typical Subaru fashion. However, we won’t see Subaru’s famous differential this time. Instead, electric motors will be mounted on both axles.
Interior
The inside is still a bit of mystery. However, Subaru did release one rendering photo, which shows mostly the dashboard design. Still, the picture is mostly dark, so we can’t see the details. What we can see pretty clearly is that the center console and stack come as a separate, single unit that looks really upscale. The infotainment screen is massive, while there is also a big number of buttons, which should make its use easier.
On the other hand, we know for sure that the new SUV will be compact in size. The model should be similarly sized like typical compact crossovers, such as Toyota RAV4 and Subaru Forester. Still, we count on a little bit more cabin room, due to the all-electric powertrain.
2023 Subaru Solterra Specs and Performance
At this point, the exact numbers are still a mystery. The 2023 Subaru Solterra specs are yet to be revealed and the only thing we know so far is that AWD will be standard. This means at least two electric motors, so the power should be respectable as well. We won’t estimate the numbers at the moment.
We also expect that Toyota’s new battery technology will be implemented. As far as it goes for the battery, it should go anywhere between 50 and 100 kWh. With such a capacity, the 2023 Subaru Solterra range should be respectable too. We presume that certain versions will be able to make over 300 miles on a single charge.
2023 Subaru Solterra Release Date and Price
We believe that the new model will be ready for the second half of the next year. When it comes to the 2023 Subaru Solterra price, we believe that the base version will go somewhere between 35.000 and 40.000 dollars. Currently, there are no direct competitors, but this could change a lot in the next year or two, as electrification is entering the mainstream segment as well.
