The brand-new 2023 Mazda CX-90 has been in talks for a while. Although the officials still keep details a secret, we can predict some of the most basic things about the new crossover. This will be the new flagship model in the company’s lineup and from what we know so far, it will be notably bigger than the outgoing CX-9. Of course, the bigger size won’t be its only quality.
More importantly, the new model will switch to the new platform, which will bring so many new things. Besides the RWD layout, the new platform will also bring all kinds of new powertrain options, including all-new inline-six units, as well as a plug-in hybrid system. Finally, a diesel engine will be offered in certain parts of the world.

2023 Mazda CX-90 Design
The 2023 Mazda CX-90 will be an all-new model, which will replace the aging CX-9 model. From what we know so far, it will be bigger and more muscular. However, that won’t be the only quality. This model will ride on the company’s new platform, which features an FR layout, with a longitudinally-mounted engine and rear-wheel drive. Natural, all-wheel-drive models will be offered too. The new platform will bring all kinds of new tech features, as well as some new driver-assistance features.
Of course, you may count on a completely new styling as well. We presume that the base design language will be similar to the new CX-60, which has just been launched. This means that the new 2023 Mazda CX-90 would look a little bit bolder and more aggressive, though Mazda’s recognizable sleek and clean lines will remain.
Interior

We also count on a digital instrument cluster, which would emulate classic instruments, in Mazda’s typical fashion.
2023 Mazda CX-90 Engine
Big things are expected under the hood as well. As we already mentioned, the 2023 Mazda CX-90 will feature a longitudinally-mounted engine layout and we are eagerly waiting to see new units on the offer. This particularly refers to the new 3.0-liter inline-six engine, which will most likely come in two variants regarding max output. Base models will probably feature around 300 horsepower, while the upgraded version of the engine may count all-away up to 400. In both cases, we expect to see Mazda’s new 8-speed automatic transmission.
This won’t be the only big novelty under the hood. The new crossover is also expected with a plug-in hybrid setup. In that case, the system will be based on a 2.5-liter inline-four engine. The combined output will go around 325 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. The system comes with a 17.8-kWh battery pack, while the power is sent to wheels via a CVT gearbox.
Finally, this SUV will be offered with a new diesel engine, though not in North America. The new oil-burner also features an inline-six design, though with 3.3 liters in displacement. The max output goes around 280 horsepower.
2023 Mazda CX-90 Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2023 Mazda CX-90 will arrive sometime in the next year. We also expect that the new model will cost significantly more than the current CX-9, which is available at around 36.000 dollars. It will compete with more premium rivals, such as Acura MDX, BMW X5, Volvo XC90 etc.
