2023 Mazda CX-5 Redesign: Everything We Know So Far

0

If we can trust the latest reports, the replacement for the current-generation CX-5 is already in development and it could arrive already in the next year, as the 2023 Mazda CX-5. This compact crossover is Mazda’s best-selling vehicle and also one of the best models in the class, so the expectations from the new model are big. At this point, the officials are still quiet, but we know what to expect from the new model, at least when it comes to some basic design features.

What we know for sure is that the new 2023 Mazda CX-5 will get new engines, including a brand-new inline-six. Also, it will ride on the RWD platform, which promises improvements in driving characteristics. Naturally, we expect that the new model will bring a completely new styling, new interior design and many other novelties. Even a diesel version is possible in some parts of the world.

2023 Mazda CX-5 Redesign

The 2023 Mazda CX-5 will come completely redesign and the first thing that comes to mind is the platform. The Japanese manufacturer works on a new architecture, which will debut with the next-generation Mazda 6 in the next year. What’s most interesting about it is that the layout will be completely different. The new Mazda models will feature rear-wheel drive, along with longitudinally mounted engines. That promises improvements in various aspects and also means that Mazda is definitely entering the premium segment.

Of course, we also count on a completely new styling. The current model still looks impressive, despite the age, so we expect nothing less from the next generation. The new model should continue with further evolution of the company’s gorgeous KODO design language, characterized by sleek and smooth lines, something that’s a real rarity on today’s market.

Interior

Of course, the cabin will be all-new as well. We presume that the company will continue with a similar design approach, which includes mostly simple and clean lines, in a combination with high-end materials and great overall build quality. The 2023 Mazda CX-5 should be even better and we expect a lot of influence from the upcoming Mazda 6, as well as a little bit of inspiration from the smaller CX-30.

Also, many reports suggest that the new generation will be bigger, which indicates more space on the inside. The second row should offer more passenger space, while the cargo area should get bigger. Those things are the weakest points of the current generation.

2023 Mazda CX-5 Engines

This is probably the most interesting aspect of the next generation. From what we know so far, the new model will feature rear-wheel drive, as well as an inline six-engine. That should be a brand-new 3.0-liter gasoline unit, which will come with a mild-hybrid setup, in a couple of variants, regarding max output. The max output should go from 280 to 350 horsepower, reports. Along with the new engine, we also count on a new transmission. That will probably be an 8-speed unit from Aisin, reports say.

In some parts of the world, we could also see a diesel version. Allegedly, the new engine will be co-developed with Toyota and it will feature six cylinders and 3.3 liters in displacement. At this point, there is still no official confirmation for this oil burner.

2023 Mazda CX-5 Release Date and Price

The 2023 Mazda CX-5 will most likely arrive sometime in the second half of the next year, but keep in mind that we are still waiting for the official confirmation. When it comes to the price, we expect that the new model will be more expensive compared to the current model, mainly because of the engine. So, the new generation could get much closer to the premium segment and compete with models like BMW X3, Audi Q5 etc.
