2023 Lexus RZ 450e Electric SUV: Confirmed for the U.S.

0

A few months ago, Toyota presented a strategy that includes a whole range of all-electric models that will come in the future. Among them, we saw several Lexus models as well, such as new SUVs, sports cars etc. While most of them are still far from the serial production, there is one that’s about to come already for the next year. Yes, we are talking about the 2023 Lexus RZ 450e, which will represent the Japanese luxury carmaker in the segment of compact luxury crossovers.

At this point, the company still keeps most details a secret but some of the things about this crossover are easy to predict. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is a close relationship with the recently introduce Toyota bZ4X and its corporal twin Subaru Solterra. These models will share a lot of parts, but we have no doubt that Lexus is about to bring a lot of exclusive things to the table.

The all-new 2023 Lexus RZ 450e has been confirmed for the U.S. market and it looks like it will arrive by the end of this year.

2023 Lexus RZ 450e Design

As we already mentioned, the 2023 Lexus RZ 450e will share a lot with the Toyota bZ4X, as well as with Subaru Soltera. Of course, this starts with the platform. The two models will use the same architecture, which is a kind of modified TNGA platform, designed for all-electric vehicles only. It brings a lot of new tech and design solutions, without sacrificing performance and overall driving characteristics.

We’ve already seen a couple of rendering photos, which clearly show the aforementioned connection with mainstream siblings. The overall profile looks pretty much the same and we believe that dimensions won’t be much different either. So, expect the 2023 Lexus RZ 450e to compete in the segment of compact crossovers.

On the other hand, the front and rear ends are completely different. At the front, you can see the latest iteration of the brand’s design language, highlighted by the latest version of the well-known spindle grille. As we are talking about the all-electric vehicle, it’s no wonder that most of the new grille is closed, while the openings are only in the lower sections. The rear end is also notably different compared to the bZ4X and Soltera, highlighted by a long horizontal stripe on the tailgate that connects taillights.

Interior

Details about the interior are still unknown. Lexus keeps everything a secret, so we can only speculate about the cabin design. Considering dimensions, we may expect to see a couple of spacious rows of seats, while the cargo area probably won’t be all that generous.

On the other hand, we can’t say much about aesthetics. What we can say is that we expect to see typical Lexus quality. This would mean nice materials in a combination with the excellent build quality and attention to detail. Furthermore, we count on lots of tech features. Of course, this includes things like digital cluster, infotainment screen and latest connectivity features, but we also count on a full load of advanced safety features, as that has always been this manufacturer’s area of expertise.

2023 Lexus RZ 450e Powertrain

Considering that the platform will be shared with the aforementioned models from Toyota and Subaru, we may expect to see a similar setup. Still, we know for sure that the 2023 Lexus RZ 450e will feature significantly more power. The latest rumors suggest standard all-wheel-drive, which includes two electric motors. Allegedly, each motor will feature a max output of 201 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. Does this mean the combined output of 402 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque? It’s hard to say at this point.

Without any doubt, this crossover will be pretty capable. Also, it will come with a couple of advanced systems, such as Direct4. This is a torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system, which can send torque to each wheel independently. The new SUV will also come with a steer-by-wire system, which should provide more convenient handling.

2023 Lexus RZ 450e Release Date and Price

At this point, the officials are still quiet about the launch date. Still, many believe that the 2023 Lexus RZ 450e could hit the market by the end of this year. Most experts suggest a starting price of around 50.000 dollars.
