2023 Lexus GX 460 Redesign: Changes, Specs, Price

0

The current generation of Lexus’s mid-size SUV is way too old to be considered competitive and the only thing that keeps it alive is the fact that there is actually no direct competition. This is the only mid-size luxury SUV on the market that still rides on a body-on-frame platform, with the focus on off-road performances. It looks like changes are finally coming. At this point, we don’t know the details, but some of the things are quite easy to be predicted. From what we know so far, the 2023 Lexus GX 460 Redesign will bring a lot of changes, but the overall layout won’t change.

Once again, the Japanese company will offer a body-on-frame luxury SUV, which offers excellent off-road performance. On the other hand, the new design will bring improvements in all aspects, especially in terms of ride quality. Furthermore, we expect that the new model will be much more efficient, mostly because of the new powertrain.

The new generation should arrive sometime during 2022.

2023 Lexus GX 460 Redesign

As we’ve just mentioned, the current generation has been around for too long, so there is no doubt that the upcoming redesign will bring all kinds of improvements. Of course, one of the first things that come to mind is the platform. Just like other BoF vehicles in the company’s lineup, the 2023 Lexus GX 460 will also switch to the company’s new TNGA-F platform, which has just debuted in the new Toyota Tundra.

The new platform will bring all kinds of benefits. First of all, the new model will be significantly lighter. Also, the center of gravity will be much lower, which will provide better stability in corners and better overall driving characteristics. Of course, we also count on a completely new suspension setup, which will also improve the on-road comfort, without sacrificing off-road performances.

Exterior Design

The 2023 Lexus GX 460 changes will be numerous and of course, the most notable will be those in terms of the exterior design. We count on a completely new design and there is no doubt it will be based on the brand’s latest design language. This would mean the latest iteration of the well-known spindle grille.

Still, the overall shape shouldn’t change too much. Furthermore, we count on similar dimensions. The new generation shouldn’t grow too much in size, as that would negatively impact off-road performances. Speaking of the off-road performances, we count on some pretty serious hardware, including an advanced 4WD system, locking differentials, various traction modes etc.

Interior

This aspect of the vehicle desperately needs updates. That’s no wonder, considering that not many things have changed since the initial launch in 2009. So, we count on a completely new cabin layout, starting from a completely new, much more attractive dashboard. Of course, we expect to see much finer materials, while the build quality will certainly be on Lexus’s typical level. Naturally, we also count on all kinds of latest tech features, including a new, more intuitive infotainment system.

When it comes to interior space, we don’t expect significant changes. Standard models will probably continue with two spacious rows of seats, while the optional third row probably won’t be that spacious. The cargo area will probably be slightly bigger compared to the current model, which offers around 65 cubic feet of the total volume.

2023 Lexus GX 460 Engines

When it comes to the powertrain, we expect to see significant changes. The current model comes with a not-particularly-efficient 300-hp engine and we expect that this engine will be replaced. The most probable replacement is a turbocharged V6, same or similar to one that powers the new Tundra. For reference, that engine offers 389 horsepower. That would be more than enough to ensure the respectable performance of the next-generation GX. Also, we count on a new 10-speed automatic transmission.
