2023 Honda CR-V Redesign: Everything We Know So Far

0

One of the world’s best-selling SUVs is about to get a completely new iteration. According to the latest reports, the new generation will debut next year, as the 2023 Honda CR-V. At this point, the test mule wears camouflage, though we can also find a couple of rendering photos that suggest how the new model could look like. More importantly, the new generation will bring a larger footprint and probably introduce a three-row version.

At this point, the exact details are still unavailable but we expect to see the evolution of the current design. In other words, the new model shouldn’t bring any radical changes. The overall layout should remain the same, while we don’t expect significant changes under the hood either, at least when it comes to the gasoline version. On the other hand, the hybrid model could come with a completely new setup, though the officials are still quiet on this matter.

We expect that the 2023 Honda CR-V will hit the market sometime in the second half of 2022.

At this point, the exact details are still unavailable but we presume we can predict some of the most basic things about the new 2023 Honda CR-V. As we’ve just mentioned, the new model shouldn’t bring any radical changes. We expect the evolution of the current design, whether it’s about aesthetics or mechanics.

What we do expect to see is a design that is based on the new, 11th generation of Civic. Once again, the two models will ride on the same platform and share a lot of mechanical parts. Of course, the CR-V will come with a lot of unique design solutions but we don’t expect that will keep sporty driving characteristics, something that usually isn’t the case with these kinds of vehicles.

Exterior Design

When it comes to the exterior design, one of the first things that come to mind is the size. From what we know so far, the new 2023 Honda CR-V will feature a larger footprint than the outgoing model. We count on a longer wheelbase, as well as an increase in other dimensions. All these things should provide more space on the inside, and allow the addition of the third row. At this point, it’s unknown whether we are about to see a stretched wheelbase for the three-row model or not.

In terms of aesthetics, we have no doubt that the upcoming model will bring a completely new look. At this point, the test model still wears a camouflage but we can find a lot of rendering photos on the network that suggest how the new model could look like. From what we can see, the new model will feature narrower headlights, integrated with a massive grille, which together provide a more aggressive and more mature look.

Interior

One of the biggest novelties, at least for the U.S. market, will be the addition of a three-row version. So far, such a model was available in Europe, but considering that the wheelbase was the same as in the standard model, the third row wasn’t particularly useful. That’s why the new 2023 Honda CR-V is about to feature a notably longer wheelbase, which should provide more room in the third row. As always, we expect that the new model will deliver some of the class-leading ratings regarding cargo capacity.

Of course, we also expect to see a completely new dashboard design and we presume that a lot of inspiration will be taken from the new Civic, which looks really amazing. Naturally, we also expect to see lots of new tech features, starting from a new infotainment system, digital instrument cluster etc.

2023 Honda CR-V Engines

Under the hood, the 2023 Honda CR-V shouldn’t bring bigger surprises, at least when it comes to the standard gasoline model. We expect that this version will bring a familiar 1.5-liter turbo-four engine, which puts out around 190 horsepower. The engine comes in pair with a CVT gearbox and we like how it rides. It offers quick acceleration and smooth operation, while the fuel economy is also its strong point. The current generation returns up to 28 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway.

On the other hand, the situation with the hybrid version is still unclear. Even though the current version was introduced just a couple of years ago, the actual system dates from several years before. That’s why many believe Honda could introduce a new one. Most reports suggest a plug-in hybrid setup.
