2023 GMC Acadia Preview: Denali, Specs, Features, Price

The current generation of GMC’s mid-size crossover still marks relatively decent sales numbers but the fact is that it’s been outclassed by rivals in many ways. That’s why GM already works on the next generation, which will arrive as the 2024 Acadia, with all kinds of interesting changes. This also means that the 2023 GMC Acadia will be the final production year of the generation, which indicates no bigger changes.

So, we are about to see a familiar design, which still has a couple of good things to offer. We like how it rides, while the engine lineup offers you a choice between peppy and efficient. Furthermore, the infotainment system is easy to use, while the first two rows of seats are very generous with space. On the other hand, the third row is cramped, while the cargo area is also less generous compared to rivals.

As there are no significant changes to come, we expect that the 2023 GMC Acadia will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of 2022.

As we are talking about the final production year of the generation, it’s easy to conclude that there won’t be too many changes. Instead, we are about to see a familiar layout, which is based on GM’s familiar C1 platform. The current generation has been around for a while, but it also receive an update a few years ago, so we could say it still looks fresh and attractive.

Like any other GMC, this one is also available in Denali trim, which brings more standard equipment, as well as some pretty unique styling details, such as chrome grille, chrome wheels etc. Also, there is the AT4 model, which comes with standard AWD, hill descent control and a few more off-road upgrades. It also comes with a couple of exclusive styling details.

Interior

On the inside, we count on a familiar layout, which hasn’t changed too much since the initial launch of the generation. The dashboard looks nice, though we have to say that rivals look more modern. More importantly, the overall build quality isn’t spectacular. This particularly refers to materials, as there is a lot of areas that are wrapped out with hard plastics and similar low-rent materials.

When it comes to the passenger space, the first two rows are very generous. They accommodate adults with ease, while the front seats are also decently supportive and comfortable. The driving position is good, while the visibility is very good in most directions. On the other hand, the third row isn’t that generous. Instead, it is quite cramped and works for kids only.

Behind the third row, you will find 12.8 cubic feet of cargo space, which isn’t spectacular. Things are slightly better once you fold them down, as you get 41.7 cubic feet of space. Finally, the max capacity is 79 cubic feet. All three ratings are below-average for the class.

Features

Considering that we are talking about the final production year, it’s hard to believe that the 2023 Acadia could bring bigger changes in this aspect. Of course, a few tweaks are always possible, but most of the things are about to remain the same. So, all models should come standard with goodies like tri-zone climate control, push-button start, an 8-inch touch screen, a six-speaker stereo, satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, USB ports, Bluetooth, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

In higher trim levels, you can get upgrades like a dual-panel sunroof, remote start, navigation, wireless device charging, an eight-speaker Bose audio system, HD Radio, and a rear-seat entertainment system.

2023 GMC Acadia Engines

Things under the hood definitely won’t change and the 2023 GMC Acadia will continue with two familiar engine options on the offer. Base models will continue with a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, which is quite enough for decent driving dynamics. Also, this engine is quite efficient and you may count on about 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, which is pretty good for the segment.

If you’re looking for something peppier, there is a well-known 3.6-liter V6, which puts out around 308 horsepower and offers notably better driving dynamics. On the other hand, it is notably thirstier and you may count on no more than 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. That’s a typical fuel economy for a mid-size SUV.

Both engines come in pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission, which does a pretty decent job.
